they are refusing to do anything about the fatiguing schedules, have a head in the sand approach to all things scheduling wise, and refuse to acknowledge that we are severely underpaid.

The airplanes are still in good condition outside of a few of the older freighters, but the back office shenanigans just need to improve. It just seems that in the last two years the general morale of the entire group has gone downhill. Many Americans are heading back home to fly with the majors and UPS.

Sounds very much like NCA, except they were shrinking and had a 12 year upgrade.
Thanks for the info.

jrmyl, mind explaining how they work the schedules to be so fatiguing? Do you get any control of your schedule based on seniority? Do you see any benefit if one could get sponsorship to live in country vs commuting? Thanks in advance!

There is no seniority. You have no control over what trips you fly. You only request what days off you want. And normally you get those.

There is no sponsorship to live in country. It is only a commuting contract.

The problem with the schedules is you change from day to night back to day and so on. They love to give 24 hour layovers which don't help with anything other than making you more tired as you will switch from a day/night to a night/day. It would be better, IMO, if they would use either a 16 hour or a 30 hour layover and keep you on the same night to night or day to day schedule.

They are just now introducing a fatigue management program but they still don't acknowledge the role of the schedule in the problem. They seem to think that being fatigued is only due to us not sleeping enough. And the best way to battle fatigue while on duty is to eat dried squid. (That is an actual thing in the manual, no joke)

Few Questions if some can take the time:

With the commuting home, does each month have to be to the same destination? Example, I live in San Francisco, but have a place in SE Asia and depending on the month, decide where I want to go?

When you commute into Tokyo, is there a crew apartment, etc, that you can stay or you find your own crashpad/apartment, like we have in the US?

Is a 4 year degree required? I don't see it listen anywhere, but not ruling out I missed it.

You can have a second commuting destination but you must have a good reason, where your parents live, you have a second home etc. and it must be approved by the company beforehand, after it is approved, you can choose where to go al long as you do it ahead of time and within the CClass request period.

You get a housing allowance and you can either get an apartment, share one with other pilots or stay at one of the local hotels, your choice. most of us have apartments and a few guys are at the Mystays hotel

Not required

How are things looking for ANA right now? Im typed on the 767 in the US ACMI sector. I understand new hires are going to the 767 with a posible move to the 787? Is that about right?

For ANA things are looking great, as to how will that translate to the “Red Haired Step Children” is anyone’s guess

It is impossible for any of us to tell you what the future holds, right now the new hire are going to the 76, we have no idea about numbers or future utilization.
What I can tell you is that so far they have managed to make many people very angry with the way the integration of the 78 has been handled, transferring folks out of seniority with absolutely no aparent logic to some of their selection, nothing against the folks that have been selected at all, but there are many senior guys that have been told “not now” that by all measures have been loyal and productive line pilots since the beginning, no one understands why when it was so easy just to do it by seniority and be done with it.
Come here for the commuting conditions and expect to be on the right seat of the 76 for the duration of your first contract and you won’t be disappointed with it
