I have an opportunity to apply to NCA through Parc, a placement company in Ireland, for B747-400 and -800 F/O work. I previously flew the -400 with UAL.

The initial response I received from Parc included contracts for US and Euro-based crews. Pay, per diem, and time off seem pretty good. Training time in Tokyo seems long--6 months; especially since I'm already typed, but I assume that is getting the ICAO License and doing the course from scratch.

Questions for anyone who has experience with them:

1. Do foreign carriers typically have Jumpseat agreements? IE, is jumpseating a way to commute, or is it ID90 or other purchased tickets?

2. Has anyone flown with NCA? If so, what are your impressions?

3. Has anyone dealt with Parc Aviation? Good, bad, indifferent, or is it better to go directly to NCA?

When all the furloughs are done at UAL (as currently planned), I will survive by about 100-200 names. I would consider taking a leave of absence to do this over being a Catfish (bottom-feeder) at United, just waiting for the next economic upheaval to kick me out the door.

Your opinions and experiences are appreciated.

I have heard good things about PARC in general. I have heard they pay on time and their insurance isn't that bad either. Look on the Vietnam Airlines thread on pprune and there is a long discussion and opinion onPARC vs. other contract companies. I have nothing bad to say about PARC since I have been trying to land a contract with them for Vietnam Airlines.

I have work with several leasing companies, and I can tell you, all are the same,, they just want money money money.
PARC is more professional is the best in the business.
But with NCA or PARC both are great! no worries mate.

I am on one of the other ANA contracts through PARC and my pay is correct and on time each month. Of the 3 agencies that have guys on my contract, PARC does seem to be the most professional. Unless things have changed, you do not have the option of going directly with NCA. All of the jobs in Japan will require a leasing agency in the middle.

Jumpseating does not exist here and it never will. I am not sure what benefits NCA has, but if they are similar to ours, you get ZEDs on most Star Alliance carriers.

You are not only learning the 747 from scratch, you will be taught how to fly the "Japanese" way. It is a different training environment than you have ever experienced but I have herd good things about NCA so it is probably worth the effort.

How does the contract renewal work with PARC. I have an upcoming interview with AJX and it is a 5 year contract. When do you know that the contract will be renewed and are the terms usually the same?

Also, does the medical insurance include dental or are you on your own with dental?

As long as the company is still around and you are not a major trouble maker, your contract will be renewed. I don't know of anyone that has not been offered a renewal so far.

With PARC, there is no dental coverage. It might be offered as an option but I am not sure. Each contract company has their own insurance so I am not sure what the other guys have.

I'm currently on the ANA contract like LostinAsia as well, but through CREW. CREW uses Aetna Global (PPO) for the US guys and it covers everything for the whole family worldwide. The co-pay and deductibles are very, very low or non-existent for most cases. Also, CREW pays 100% of the monthly premium for the whole family. That in itself saves me a ton of dinero each month. Hope this helps a bit.

Just curious, as it turns out I didn't meet one requirement for the PARC offer, which is 250 hours of airline PIC in a 737 or bigger.

(I asked PARC if pulling 6 Gs as PIC in a 57,000 lb F-4 would count--it would be 350,000 lbs of lift--but they said no).
