I am with PARC working for Air China and have had none of the problems some posters have referred to.

China has its ups and downs but some airlines are crap and some are fine.

Dont tar all chinese carriers with the same brush

My wife & I are like-minded. We're looking for a new scenery, and considering China, or Asia. I'm about 20 years into this career, but only PIC (on the venerable DC-9, no less) for only about 3 years now. Got a lot of total time, but limited PIC. Around 1000hrs PIC on the -9, and 3k hrs on the right seat of the A-320, and other sundry hours spread out on the right seat. Wondering how employable PARC would find my experience. Any ideas, (preferably from someone actually working w/ PARC, or a Chinese carrier). Thanks.

The employees at PARC are very approachable. You can talk to one of their agents on the phone. As I said before... they are a class act... probably one of the best in the business.

You will not be hired as a Captain unless you have 500-1000 PIC in the A320 or whatever they are hiring for.

I'm at shenzhen and can confirm some of the fines, etc. i work hard but i have a different perspective than most...i didn't have a job when i came over so i was happy to have one. wasinc has done it's best to support the guys but the chinese mgmt. teams are difficult to deal with and don't like to change away from their chinese mentalities to make westerners happy. any issues i've had wasinc has stepped in and helped where they can. my wife and two daughters are here with me and love it..with around 90 expat pilots the family community is great.

Wasinc was great when I was interviewing and asking them questions about the job - responsive and punctual. after I arrived and was on payroll they really did not help at all and it would often be a long time for response to emails or phone calls. often telling me to go talk to the airline myself about problems. airline says contact wasinc, wasinc says contact airline and you are left hung out to dry. there are many other contract agencies out there, recommend you do your research to know what you are getting into. don't bother reading the contract - it doesn't mean anything anyway. once you are on a contract in china it's pretty much impossible to change to another airline / contract company, even if you finish a contract when it's time for renewal they won't let you transfer your records which is why it's important to do some research before you are locked in for that country.

Whoever you are contracted to fly for, try to make copies of all training documents while you're in training. Some airlines might have you carry the training docs around while you going through training.

Make it a habit to copy every sheet after you finish the training session. This way you'll have your own set of copies down the road when you part way. Much easier than trying to obtain any records or copies later on. Just my experience.

Before contracting work with another company/airline, you need your current company to provide you with a contact release, which must be accepted by the Chinese too.
