Seems like he applied for voluntary furlough.

While BA's actions are typical for some airlines, could this Captain be the author of his own misfortune? There are options other than taking leave. The best action might be to either get back on the horse, or seek counseling for PTSD.

Sometimes a guy's just got to press on, even in the face of inaccurate or disparaging rumors.

I heard some of the vicious rumours, and refused to believe them. First, the tabloid media in UK frequently gets it wrong, but second, cabin staff are almost never reliable.

I really feel bad for this chap. Handed a really bad situation, I think it turned out better than it could have. Good luck, Peter.

Barring any underlying events that have not been made public, there are 777 jobs available in Asia.

I wish him and his family good luck during these hard times.

Most jobs here require an accident free history. Doesn't matter if it is your fault or not, generally any accident is a show stopper.

I've read report conclusions and still have some questions.

Was this:
A freak accident due to a unique set of circumstances
A design problem with the aircraft fuel systems
A crew issue for not monitoring fuel temps/airspeed/throttle positions?
All of the above?

If the captain "froze" (no pun intended) during the event, wouldn't the flap retraction and/or CVR disavow that rumor?

Thanks

So to use the other end of the spectrum.....you're saying that even Sully couldn't get a job in Asia because he was involved in a mishap and was in no way found to be causal? That is some pretty tough criteria.

afraid so. There's isn't any flexibily in Asia. The requirements are followed to the letter without any consideration for special circumstances.
