Not real sure why this is in the international section, as they are a US Air Carrier. Anyways, they recently started service to San Juan International, but they cut some other flights to make that happen I believe. Their crews work really hard, pounding out tons of legs in one day. The Seaplane has become more of a commodity and the land based stuff seems to be where the emphasis is. I always thought it would be a cool job, but at this point in my career, I don't see myself going to the right seat of a Twin Otter. The FOs do not get paid very well, like all regional FOs, so it just would not make sense to me at this time. Count on a net loss of money as a FO with living expenses at first (pretty similar to any Regional). The crews I have spoken with tell me they lose more FOs than they upgrade. With all that said, flying a Twin Otter around the US Caribbean would be pretty darn sweet if it was the right time to pull something like that off in your life.
I have lived in Saint Croix, San Juan, and Saint Thomas before (working for Cape Air), and it is really nice, but insanely expensive, but after a while I started to miss the little things, and the people that are important to me. However, I look back on the experience with fond memories.
