How do we get a Foreign Type Rating put on our FAA Lic?

Well the title pretty much says it all.. I know there has been much said about this both here and on the Prune, however no one, to my knowledge, has answered the question..

I have heard of guys at my company going into the Sim. at odd hours in a group with an examiner get an Airbus rating put on a Euro license, but never anyone who gets it done on the FAA, or Boeing for that matter..

Now with all of the talent on here:D one of you must know how to do this.. It is easy if it is a recognized authority (CAA, JAR etc), but what if it is not???

cheers for the responses

You can find all of the requirements and information about issuance of US certificates/qualifications based on a foreign license here (taken from the FAA Inspectors Handbook).

EK,

Frankly I couldn't do it. I mean get a Foreign Type on my FAA license. I'm not sure if it's possible. I had to complete the whole process and get a European License which included completing the JAA ATPL exams and then get the JAA type rating. My FAA license was validated for a very short time while I completed the JAA licensing process.

As for the process going in reverse, I believe it really depends on the willingness of the CAA from the which the Euro license was issued as to whether they would accept a type rating on their license. That being said, if it is a JAA country then it's pretty clear that the type rating program must be JAA approved in order to have it on a JAA license.

Good luck,

Lifter

Thanks to both of you for your help.. I am talking to some friends in the US about this, and hopefully someday we will figure it out..
It might be possible to take a "Check ride" or type ride if you will, with an FAA DE probably in the US.
Of course it is quite cheap and easy to hopp into a B-777 Sim.... :)
cheers EKBC
