Default Emirates Relief Pilots

Hello All,

United Airlines 777 F/O here.

Quick question: How does Emirates (and everyone else globally) staff their augmented flights?

At United, under 8 hours, we have 1 captain and one fully type rated captain qualified F/O.

Over 8 hours we carry a second F/O then over 12 hours, a third F/O for a total of 4 crew-members

All F/O's are type rated, fully qualified and receive the same F/O pay rate. ($130/hr)

How is it done elsewhere?

You operation is pretty close to what they do most places overseas. I think for many you don't get an extra FO till over nine hours. If you are looking for places that use two full qualified captains you won't find many.Try asking same question on Pprune.com

Actually, I was looking for places that use non type rated relief pilots at a lower pay rate. I was curious as to how low the bar was that we were competing against.

Will the Captain take his break in the cockpit?
I would be afraid to to to the back for rest with that relief crew.

Cathay on three man ops has a CA, Relief Qualified FO, and a third FO or SO.

A relief qualified FO is basically the cruise CA.

On current four man ops it is CA, RQ FO, FO, SO.

It may be changing according to rumors to CA, RQ FO, SO, SO, but that would result in one of the pilots in the seat for landing being completely exhausted and fatigued especially at the end of an ULH since SO's are not in the seat for TO or LDG.
