So are the Japanese even trying to bring more expats in due to the fact they can't crank out pilots fast enough.

Unfortunately, those days are over. Not sure of other carriers but JAL has closed the Napa ab initio training center last year. Due to their downsizing, they have a surplus of JAPANESE pilots. This is likely to continue for a couple of years.

The surplus Japanese pilots at JAL are spilling into the other Japanese carriers as well, as a Japanese license has some value to the smaller carriers.

Your view of the market here in Japan is quite dated, first of all the situation at JAL has improved dramatically since their bankruptcy and they are now venturing into the LCC market with the introduction of JetStar Japan, there are still no jobs for expat pilots in the JAL group per say but the JetStar Japan startup is already interviewing expat pilots because there are no pilots available here in Japan, the final number that went to the street from JAL was about 280 pilots total and not the 800 plus that was reported at the beginning of the economical downturn and those pilots have either left the career all together or long since been absorbed by the local and international contract market.
There are two more startups that are just starving for pilots, PEACH and Air Asia Japan, both from the ANA group, these two companies are already interviewing expat pilots and of course Air Japan is also interviewing and hiring on a continuos basis, Skymark has also lowered their minimums because of lack of crews, NCA is also in the process of starting a hiring spree this fiscal year, Japan is a very active expat pilot market currently.
But on relation to the tittle of this thread, non of these jobs have US bases available at the moment.

Dominican,

I have heard rumours that a Japanese based LCC will be employing 330 skippers to be HNL based? Do you know if thats Jetstar?

Apparently both JetStar and Peach are planing to go with A330's eventually, I have not heard anything about basing. It remains to be seen if the LCC kraze catches on in Japan, time will tell I guess.

Just got a job posting from Best AViation JObs for Jet Star A330 CAP vacancies. There were no specifics on bases but 11K/mo base pay plus the option for $2200/mo for housing and overtime at $150/HR over 80 hours.

I think that is for JetStar Asia based out of Singapore, the operation here in Japan hasn't even started with the A320 yet so they are 1 to 2 years away from the A330 operation here, JetStar Asia will also cross train from Boeing as they have cross trained several folks I know, all the guys working here in Japan were Boeing guys so I think they will continue the same trend here (my opinion only
of course) Interesting times in the next few years here in Asia, China is putting a lot of pressure by upping the ante in several contracts, now some of the A320 gigs here have contract packages worth over 20g's a month and the commuting conditions are improving, just got an email yesterday with a commuting 737 gig offering 21 on 9 off.

Correction to my previous A330 post. It's Jet Airways based in India (mumbai base). Sigma Aviation has a posting but other recruiters have had postings for the past 5 months.
