Thats a shame...another one bites the dust. I guess my app there is going nowhere now. HA!

Yep, they were part of oneworld. Malev didnt add much to the network, but there is now an even larger hole in Eastern Europe for Oneworld.

It is sad, but OneWorld is really having a tough time lately. Mexicana ceased ops about 18 months ago, Malev is done, Kingfisher was supposed to become a full member but is now on hold due to financial problems, and of course AA is in BK.

"Hungary also is served by one budget airline, Wizz Air."

Give a whole new meaning to, "I'm gonna take a Wizz!

Ryanair has announced that they will open up a base in Budapest in 2 weeks with 31 new routes to capitalize on the news of Malev.

Great, Ryanair. The cockroach of European "airlines".

May not be the best place to work, but at least its a paycheck until a better job comes along.

Michael OŽLeary flew down to Bilbao, Spain earlier this week to announce new routes out of Bilbao after the shutdown of Spanair. Former Spanair employees came out to protest, accusing MOL of being a SOB.

As much as we all love to hate Ryanair, they are doing something right as far as making money goes (canŽt say the same about treatment of employees, but I think it is part of their business plan).

When Ryanair announced cutting routes at my local airport due to the local government not being Ryanair friendly, I wondered why local airlines didnŽt move in. Instead, the local govt renegotiated and Ryanair moved in. This is what happens when you allow cabotage.
