Default Air Pacific anyone

Anyone care to share their experiences on the B737 commuting contract.
Days off at nominated base, accommodation in Nadi and general vibe.
Cheers all.

All I know about Air Pacific is that they were banned from "the truck" in Narita a few years ago, but all is well now and they are welcome again.

No kidding. . . how did they pull that one off.

I spent alot of time in Fiji when I was on the 767 (not my first choice for base, nice to visit though)and have been contacted as of late regarding their B767 operation. They run through pilots pretty quickly because, in my opinion, their pay is very substandard (mid $70's Kiwi for FO on the 767, not sure about the 737), and their are really no benefits, that 70 odd thousand is what you get with perdiems. They have an Auckland base so you would think it would be help in getting people from here, but there are so many other options in Australasia that they really aren't getting any takers. At the ens od the day an FO on the 767 at Air NZ makes three times what their compatriate at Air Pac does.

And then there is living in Fiji. . .

KoruPilot,

Had an offer on the table from AP...Salary $ 600 NZD per day of DUTY. No pay for days off, or dead heading from nominated base or transit to the Sim. No leave entitlement. All in all not too good.

Was that for a left seat then? The numbers they gave me were equivelant to about $400 per day for the right seat in the 767. As it was contract there was no insurance, per diem was included and there were no other benefits like superannuation or medical/loss of licence. In todays environment I am not sure why anyone would take it other than for a short period. They called me, frankly, in a bit of a panic. I am fully typed on the 767/757, but have only flown as a dozer, which is something AirPac would rather stay away from, but which at this point they do not have a choice. It was nice of them to call me and I appreciate it, but I do not think they are being realistic with the times in which we live.

The more people turn these contracts down, the quicker the pay and benefits will go up to the point of being worth consideration.

Yes, it was in LHS. Although the remuneration wasn't. I was looking at a stop gap, short-term contract to be based ex- AKL .

About 6 years ago, one of their gals "cleaned the clock" of a BA gal while enroute to the place. The Brit started it, but she cracked one of the windows of the bus with her foot after she was flung into it. Bottom line: BA spends more money there than did AP, so AP got the push. All is well and good now, and AP are welcome again.
