We have been in Dubai for over a year now, and I have to say, this has been the best gift I will ever give my children. Emirates is wonderful when it comes to the education allowance, and our two oldest (5 and 4), have learned so much. The diversity is incredible, something they would never have in the public schools back home. They have been to Portugal on holiday, and now going to Disneyland, in Paris. The experience for them has been outstanding. My wife has also done excellent work with other wives out here, getting involved with other Americans with orphanages in Africa. We have a whole room full of rice, toys, clothes, towels, etc. So, she has found her niche as well. That is the key though that has been hit on a million times. Living abroad is not for everybody, and that is the only drawback (ok, Dubai driving too) is that we are far from home to see our families. But is that worth what we have gained for our family here, just so I could be back at 35k at a regional commuting? Everyone will have a different story, but happy wife, happy life indeed. We love it so far, and found a new home away from home. Safe flying all!

I love living in shenzhen china and flying in china...the pay is what reminds me every month of the "why" ......its a world class city....great for ex pats and expats wives can have many foreign friends...who meet for coffee and go shopping..you can live cheap and bank alot of cash....it's playing catch up since layoffs /furloughs ate so much of what i could save in the usa....i agree with the dont look back philosophy..

im thankful and blessed to be where i am at this point in time....

if you'r looking for forecasts, boeing predicts 5000 new airframes needed in china alone over 25 years... Airbus seconds it..the rest of asia is booming....

if i was young and single, i would get the emb type or crj200 type and come over right away to make 15,000.00..or go to jetblue or spirit and get quick upgrade once the 65 retiremnts sart and everybody bails to go to delta, united and usair/AA........the airbus type is the ne to have in asia..i'm a boeing guy and may switch in 2 years ...june yao in shanghai has a non typed program for boeing guys...

cheers
