Asia hiring and training
 

I have been following various job posting websites for about a year now. It seems the opportunities overseas for type rated pilots is in abundance. It makes me wonder at what point will these carriers begin to train and have to fund type ratings.

Doubtful anytime soon. Too many on the market with them.

Sadly too many Europeans willingly go and buy type ratings for these jobs. Other nationalities are doing similar self funding for places like Air Arabia and Lion Air. Until guys/gals stop doing this there is no chance these places will pay for the training for inexperienced pilots.

Expat contracts are, at least officially, temporary positions to fill a void until a local is qualified to do it. Most of the airlines do pay for the training of their local pilots.

They pretty much pay for your training anyways. Once you're hired as an expat the amount of training you'll go through is probably far more than would be required to get a type rating back home. The type rating/time on type requirement is to either meet a government requirement to issue a work visa to a foreigner and/or get qualified people to fill those command positions.

Plenty of contracts are accepting other type ratings though. A couple of Japan jobs will accept type ratings on just about any commercial jet. Some of the Chinese ones will accept any Boeing type rating for a Boeing job or any Airbus type rating for an Airbus job. So it is easing a little bit. I doubt you'll see people being accepted with no type rating at all simply because there are plenty of locals with no type rating and the government would never issue you a work visa unless you have a skill or qualification that the locals don't have.

It's not a question of a specific type rating to be accepted by an Asian Carrier. It's PIC time on Transport Category Aircraft is what will get one the door for a carrier such as Skymark.

Think about it. Why would they pay a foreigners training when they can do the same for their own people? This will only happen in rich oil sheikdoms where the locals don't need to or want to work. East Asia? No chance. Too many also willing to do P2F.

Negative. Skymark has and does hire NTR NG pilots.

@Probe, this does not happen mostly, Airlines try not to invest and save their time. Building a resource is time taking and requires money. When you have an option ready why should you prepare another. That is the philosophy
