CEA will open a base in any port served by the A330 if they can get 8 captains based there. Start and finish at home base. Tax paid.

Not many, but there are many A330 captains who are expats who would love home basing. Same as all the 777 vacancies.

Commuting contracts sound great but there are many issues that have to be sorted out. I have a good job, pays well, great people to work for..But I'm not at home.
It takes me twelve to fourteen hours to reach my Gateway plus another eight hours to get home. I can handle the domestic sector flying economy but I require business or first on the long sector, if the contract cannot accommodate me then I'm not interested.

The CEA contract will not require commuting if it goes ahead. Its a reverse roster with patterns starting and ending in base. Similar to CA and soon to be CSA in YVR.

The problem is the "C" on CEA....! What's risky about this whole deal is the uncertainty of the contract adherence.

There is no doubt that reverse roster in western cities will greatly increase the available pilot pool of applicants for many of these companies however, they have to overcome their cultural tendencies towards not having the need nor inclination to be accommodating to their employees.

Haven said that, I know a few Aussies that are on reverse roster patterns with airlines in China and seem to be pretty content.

Lots of research would be by recommendation folks....!

I agree, I have spent 10 years either working in "C" or with "C" and its a big risk to leave a stable job to join one of these airlines. I am working short contracts at the moment and would consider the CEA option only if other things didn't eventuate. Working for one of these airlines CAN work but it WILL have its frustrations.
