India has a lot of problems in aviation, There was a scandal when airline pilots were found with fake licenses, and over on PPrune, they prettty much put the word out to stay far away as contracts are violated all the time, and pilots are being defrauded. Pretty much SOP in Indian business anyway.

The contract is substandard, simple as that...., it has very little (if any) to do with gossip on a pilot site.

They came to the AeroServices job fair in Miami in 2005. They were looking for 737NG pilots for Air India Express at the time. I had dinner with the two representatives. Nice enough guys. I felt bad for them that nobody was interested in their airline at the time.

That was 2005 in the post 9-11 bankruptcy downturn when there were a lot of pilots looking. Now it would be even more difficult for them to find anyone interested unless they offer some serious cash. They would have to be on par with China contracts or have a very good commuting deal.

The Jet Airways contract on the B777 when they first got them was a real sleeper deal. One of my current colleagues did that and he said, "it was the best job in aviation while it lasted". Very good money and a lot of time off at home.

Money and Roster, pure and simple.

After years of flying in and out of the subcontinent, I absolutely agree that pay on par with or higher than the various Chinese airlines would be necessary to get experienced captains. Lots of weather, overworked and often inadequate ATC, infrastructure and operational difficulties are just a few of the challenges. It would take a very commutable or reverse rostered base contract and lots of cash to pique interest.

I wouldn't mind doing India for a year or two. But the money has to be there. It isn't even close.
