Helpful. No one asked for your insightful opinion.

Prex8390 is completely right. I just left Emirates after 3 years and most Americans are eager to get back... some of my friends are now starting to consider going back to the regionals because the quality of life is much better.

It's no wonder they raised the bond to 5 years and $45,000. And to be honest Emirates doesn't pay NEARLY enough to put up with the idiots running the company and the day-to-day crap you'll deal with in Dubai.

I'll be there on the 23rd.

Guys….

If I can possibly talk you out of coming to EK…. If you're from the US, it's not what you think it's going to be: A Foreign legacy with AA/DL/UA like work rules and protections and schedules. NOTHING can be farther from the truth.

Do you all realize you won't get any pay for doing your 6 month PPC and in fact all sims you do, de-icing on/off gate, holding, and other such things taken for granted in the US.

Ask the tough questions at the road show if you go:

1 How many actual days will I get for vacation each year? They will say something like, "You're entitled to 42". But in reality it will be 30 and in some instances be in a few groups of 5 days only which will never allow you to get back to the US.
2. How many hours a month can I expect to fly? The answer should be 90 plus with a mix of short haul, Ultra Long haul with only 2 days off afterwords and starting July this year, you will only ever have 3 days off in a row maximum.
3. How many days off in a row can I get from my bid request (Currently but will change in July): Answer is only 5. You should realize that most of us are too tired to go non-rev (staff travel) during any group of days off.
4. Can EK unilaterally change ANY item in our contract (Terms & Conditions) any time they wish? Answer should be yes, any time we want.

I agree with a previous poster…. why on this earth would any US person want to fly with this slave labor airline??? Beyond me….

Best of luck. Once you get there, you're kinds of stuck with the proverbial "golden handcuffs".

K

First of all, those that are posting to avoid emirates, your advice is not falling on deaf ears. I am much aware of current situation at Emirates and the Middle East. Attending the assesment neither guarantees me the job nor I assume the employment. So thank you for passing on the insightful information.

If someone is attending, pm me and may be we can chat further. Thank you again.

"some of my friends are now starting to consider going back to the regionals because the quality of life is much better"

To each their own. But I would seriously question someones judgement if they left EK for a regional.

This statement is absolutely ridiculous. I won't discount the issues that are occurring at EK, but for someone to say QOL is better at a regional is delusional. For starters how the hell can any grown man/woman survive on $20-40k living in SFO, LAX, NYC, etc without living well below the poverty line or living in bad neighborhood? The only way this person will live comfortably is they are going to come to a regional with money they saved during their time at EK to supplement their garbage income they will receive at a regional. Only reason I see to make this move is to get back onto US soil, and to start working towards getting onto a US major with the logistical advantage of getting to an interview quickly.
