Default Copa Airlines hiring foreigners

Hey everybody,

First post ever here. Anybody has heard that Copa is not hiring foreigners anymore for now? That they are just hiring Panamanian citizens? Is this a rumor or can anyone verify that this is true?

True. No DECs and only Panamanian FOs. The schools down here are churning them out at a good clip now.

Would one of those schools be ALAS nowadays? I saw a job ad a while back from F.I.T. (Melbourne, FL) looking for CFIs to work in Panama but don't know if they ever got that operation started down there.

Looking at the website; they make you take a Polygraph test as part of the application process? ... What? ... That's different!

They've been doing that for quite awhile now.

I'm going to guess the crew base is Panama City, Panama

I believe in the past Captain pay has been around $8000/month, which is on par, to higher than, many of the other Central and South American carriers.

I know a couple guys who have/are flying for Copa. According to them, the contract is not as good as it was in the past. I hear there's a lot of preferential treatment to the Panamanian pilots over the expats.

Copa's website shows minimums for foreigners are 1000TT. Would they hire Americans? What is first year FO pay?

Thanks
