Default For those of you thinking of joining Cathay.

From a close friend at CX.

"Please read the threads at PPrune to find out how bad and hostile the place is or is becoming. Hiring Direct Entry First Officers again. It will really Eff things up for everyone there if people ignore the warning signs".

"Will you honor a picket line"? "Would you strike if it comes down to it"?

"So you know, Hong Kong is a dying city being overrun with Chinese mainlanders and the Government. It is outrageously expensive and getting out of Hong Kong on a CX flight, at the bottom of the list, will be nearly impossible. There is no jumpseating on the freighters! Command is about 13+ years and that's if you get selected and if you get through. Very high failure rates on all fleets right now. Rosters are nothing but toilet paper"!

"Have a real serious think about CX before you even think of going there".

Agree with Braniff. An American friend was made redundant a few years ago at CX for no legitimate reason and was left hanging overseas with no job while raising a family. Luckily for my friend, he was hired at USAirways and is back home flying. According to his experience, he says Americans should avoid CX at all costs. If one must go overseas, EK, EY and QR are much better options.

Got couple of good friends there, they are all happy. Making good money with good terms and conditions.
Yes, getting on a CX is close to impossible they say.

I've been there for close to a decade. While I'm not completely "unhappy" personally, to say that most of us are happy would be a big stretch. Good money? Depends on your perspective. Good terms and conditions? Absolutely not! Industry trailing I'd say. If you're used to working under a North American contract you'd be appalled. Getting hired impossible? Not recently. While I don't know what the new (again) DEFO interviews will be like, for the last handful of years the company has hired "kids" with no aviation experience at all (and it shows). Bottom line - if you're qualified to get a job at a USA major carrier, don't give CX a second thought - it's FAR from the company it was a few decades ago.

EK...emirates...is not a good option for Americans...see pprune.org if u want more info than the apc.com threads...
Of the 3 carriers, EY (Etihad) treats their employees the best, and QR (Qatar) pays the most.

I've seen that in pprune they have banned EY posts. Do you know anything else from Etihad and their Ts&Cs?

Thanks
