Leave Netjets?

Yeah of course you would. Delta has a quick upgrade in their La Guardia base. Why don't you throw your name in the hat for that one? I'm sure your wife and kids would be cool with that. How about Chicago or Atlanta? Maybe Houston or Dallas would tickle your fancy? All awesome options compared to the bay area. I'm sure your family is chomping at the bit.
As long as you get what you want though right? At least you'll be able to afford the alimony and you can non rev your kids out to wherever you end up when its your turn to have them.
Sounds like a genius plan. What could possibly go wrong?

Stop blaming the industry for your choices.

The idea of being home based where your employer buys you a ticket to and from your town is a huge advantage, whether its NetJets or any other operator with a similar arrangement, like Atlas for example.
Whether its worth it or not in the long run is the whole point of this thread.

Dude you sound freaking miserable. Either enjoy WU or go to NJA and have a happy life of making NO changes until you die. Risk is scary to you and so is change. Go snuggle up in that Phenom 300 cockpit for the next 45 years and enjoy living in the town your wife has lived in her entire life. Clearly the “Leave NetJets” thread on APC isn’t for you. Perhaps there is a “life is scary” thread on APC that would suit your fancy.

Jetlife, for the love of all things that are holy I don't care about your tiff with NetJets. I'm not even sure if I'm going to accept the position or not. I know the airlines are a better deal for most people. I'm simply stating the fact the commuting sucks donkey ass and the alternative (moving) is very stressful for everyone involved, and may have lots on unintended consequences. I know because I've done both.

You took an upgrade at a far away base and blame the airline for your commute. You get displaced, don’t move and blame the airline for being mean to you. What’s gonna happen when NJA furloughs and puts you on the street, after you have ignored all the signs? Is that NetJets fault too?
Oh and BTW Atlas isn’t home based, they have domiciles. Good luck getting Atlas to airline you out of DRO slugger.

Jetlife, are you even a real Pilot? I envision a spotty teenager with no friends sat in front of his PC switching between this thread and microsoft flight simulator.
The fact that you are still even posting on here is quite amazing. For
f!cks sake get a life (Jetlife lol!)
And I don't live in Durango, slugger!

As someone who worked at NJA and now doesn't, I'll chime in regarding commuting.
at NJA the closest domicile was 3 hours away. So my 6am flight meant a 5am show (or 430 sometimes). 130 or 2am out my door.
But it was my choice to be there. Most guys have a significantly shorter drive.
Now I'm at JB and commute DCA - BOS. It is probably the easiest commute possible at this airline. Usually 25 flights a day between AA and JB. I'd love to have a DCA/IAD base.
Driving 3 hours to my domicile sucked, especially since you don't get your Day1 showtime until 6pm the prior day.
My JB commute is easier than my NJA commute, but YMMV obviously.
What drove me to leave NJA is that the compensation package can't compete with even LCCs. Now, if I wanted to live in Erie PA or Little Rock it wouldn't be the end of the world. Even FO rates go a long way there. But not in any major city.
If you want to live in a major metropolitan area, commuting isn't bad as long as you pick an airline that has a base less than 500-700 miles away. If you live in Phoenix, I wouldn't apply to JB bc you'll be JFK or BOS based. If you live in Miami, maybe applying to Alaska isn't the best idea. Try not to set yourself up for failure.
One of the biggest selling points for NJA is that you can live in Bristol TN and it will work. Doing so while working for Alaska or JB would be a recipe for disaster. Of course there are exceptions to every rules. There was a Phenom Captain that commuted from like Norway on his own dime (had JFK as his domicile) and last month I flew with a JB guy that 2 legged it from Charleston WV.
Of course, less than 10 years ago NJA only had 5 bases: DAL, TEB, CMH, PBI, or LAX. If the NJA number crunchers come to the conclusion that too many people are taking advantage of inefficient bases, the company will be fighting in the next contract to close them (look at DAB for NJA/NJI and that nonsense).
This career requires a certain amount of flexibility. Bases, schedules, start times, vacations, etc. Netjets WILL buy you a ticket to and from your domicile. When the flight cancels, you shrug your shoulders and say "oh well, not my problem. I'll send a general message on the company phone and let them figure out what they want to do." If my commute to BOS cancels or whatever, I do the same thing except I call scheduling. There is a commuter clause for a reason, why should I stress?
I'd never recommend someone who lives in NYC to apply to NJA. I'd never recommend someone who lives in Fargo to apply to JB. You can make both of them work, but neither are a good fit.
If Das Auto is 60, I'd say goto NJA no doubt.
If you live in Boston - JB all day.
You have 12 kids - NJA
Single and want to bang FAs - Alaska (but really the VX FAs)
Married and want to bang FAs - Southwest
Gay and want to bang FAs (or vice versa) - JetBlue

He he actually done the math? What does a 3 year FO at NJ make? 3 year at DAL/UAL? At Dal it's $150/year on the smallest plane? Add in 15% profit sharing (additional $22.5K). How does that compare to nj? NOW, how many tickets can you by for the difference in compensation? I'll bet you would be far ahead, $$$-wise, at an airline if you even bought fully refundable First class tickets to commute and paid for a suite at the local Westin versus a crash pad for those nights needed.
Forest for the trees thingy.....
