Read on the NJASAP message board that 13 NetJets Pilots have interviews with SouthWest next month. PRIA request won't come until after the interviews so the company may not realize it yet.

We just had a bid come out for 18 Phenom Captains. Just about all of those will go to F/O's. If we don't see some larger new hire classes soon I don't know where they'll get the pilots to fly the increasing number of jets in the fleet they're planning for this year. I think the last number I saw had us at -2 net pilots for 2018.

More importantly what are they thinking skewing the CA/FO ratios like this... I get they want to throw the long term FOs a bone but there are already too many CAs system wide as it is it sounds like. They seem to be anticipating CA attrition but have completely ignored the problems they are now facing in getting FOs in the door, and more importantly, staying.

In the last round of negotiations which failed last year one of the things the company was asking for was a training contract

They just don't get it. And now they're asking for a new round of bargaining, which will just as futile unless they have a green light from BH to spend a fair amount of $$$$.

And at sometime in the future if the PIC/SIC ratio is above something like 65% (memory fading on that) then they can downgrade Captains if furloughs are being done.

For those not familiar with the NJA contract it's very, very difficult to downgrade a Captain. Union gave that up in the 2015 contract but not until a number of years pass and the ratio of PIC/SIC is above a certain level. Right now it is I'm pretty sure.

EDIT:
Curiosity made me look up the contract, here's the relevant sections. By "4th year of the agreement" I'm not sure if that would be 2019 or 2020:

5.7(C) Beginning on the fourth year of the Agreement, if the Captain to First Officer ratio
across all fleets is equal to or greater than 65:35 as a result of a furlough or for two (2)
consecutive bid periods, the Company may invoke the downgrade provisions set forth in this
subsection 5.7(C).

5.7(C)(2) When downgrading Captains, the Company shall downgrade Captains in
inverse system seniority order until a 60:40 Captain to First Officer ratio across all fleets
is achieved. The Company may choose to downgrade fewer Captains than would be
permitted by this paragraph.

The level of facepalm that management produces is startling... new round of bargaining? Lemme guess, times are tough so they want the pilot group to give some stuff up lol...

No one really knows what they want and skepticism is extremely high to say the least. Union hasn't take a position yet. I'm still having trouble believing the recruiting issue, although some of it is from inept dealing with potential candidates. I believe some of those stories are on this and other threads. Granted upgrade times are very high and no one really knows how bad that will be in the future so I'm sure that causes many to stay away. But our 7&7 schedule, not having to commute (unless you live WAY out in the boonies) and excellent health care plan are big pluses. But on the other side, with our mins of 2500 hours regionals with flow-throughs to majors would love to have those kinds of pilots.

At 48, I sat down with my financial advisor at Schwab and asked him to figure it out for me. Based on the current contracts at both companies and upgrading at UPS my last 4 years, staying at NJ was going to cost me 2.1 million dollars in earned income and retirement benefits when I retire at 65. That was all I needed to hear. I took the cash buyout offer, worked a contract gig for a few months and came to Brown. Never been more happy in my entire life, career wise.

I have spent countless hours talking with and helping colleagues from NJ who are interested in UPS, why wouldn't I. You think I have some beef with NetJets or something, and you're wrong John... I don't. But I can see that place on 3 dimensions: my time at NJI, NJA, and now being gone. Its not the greatest flying gig on earth. Yes, it works for some, others not so much. For those interested in leaving, why shouldn't I help? For those that choose to stay, best wishes. Everyone leaves this career at some point....

You “could care less”...

But you keep coming back.

Be honest with yourself for once Billy.

Being an advisor is one thing. Being a bully pulpit with Pollard makes you both look like angry wash women. It ruins your credibility.

If a pilot wants to work for UPS, there’s ways to advertise your services as self appointed advisor in much more productive ways.

The problem is both of your approaches to “being advisors” are coming across as campaigns designed to smear NetJets as a destination for employment... not advocate UPS or Alaska as a place to work.

Everything AirBear writes about pilots heading to SWA interviews is true. 4 PICs I personally know are leaving for class this month.

It’s a great time... but they are doing it with style and class.... not like a child leaving the room with a temper.

Advise the guys. Be a Yeoman’s guide. Do it without trashing companies and people you leave behind you on YOUR journey.

It’s harder. But better in the long run.

And upgrade IS to 7 years right now... streaming to at least 5 by a year from July most likely with Age 70.

Be happy for those who remain. We’re happy for you.

Just so you know John, you’re not the metric on who is classy or who isn’t. In fact, you’re not the metric of anything. Stop trying to push your relevance on everyone. Why did you come back here and start posting again anyway? Did you get laughed out of the company MB again?

I’ll bet you a case of your favorite beer you’ll see CA bids end in October. Undetermined when they’ll open up again, but I’ll say seven months minimum if ever.

As are you brother... you really are a class act. Very few pilots have a rich history like yours. You are one of the few who has done it all.

I have and always will advocate for NetJets Pilots looking to move on. In my world view, there really isn’t another group that conducts global operations with the challenges that you face. The safety record alone speaks volumes for NetJets Pilots. The industry is seeing that now, and the opportunities for those wishing to move are available.
