NetJets Phone Interview and Information
 
Greetings All,

I received an invitation for a phone interview. So, I have a few questions.

1. Has anyone been through the phone interview? Does anyone know what is discussed/asked?

2. It appears that home basing is intact. I heard that it is in jeopardy, though. Is that true?

3. Does crew scheduling handle crew hotel accommodations? Does a hotel shuttle pick you up or is it uber/cab?

4. On reserve, are you sitting standby at the FBO?

5. Do all crew meals come from catering or is there a meal allowance?

Others have more current experience and will hopefully share that, but expect it to be heavy on customer service. And of course the standard "Tell me about a time when...."

Travel does hotel and airline booking. In bigger cities there's a hotel list they go by (In theory anyway). Grd trans can be Hotel Shuttle, FBO Van (most common), or Uber/Lyft/Taxi. Lyft is preferred, NJA has a deal with them. At small out of the way airports grd trans can be a real adventure. Had to ride a senior citizen's center handicapped van one time, that was the only option other than sleeping on the jet.

4. On reserve, are you sitting standby at the FBO?

There's no real reserve. You either have a trip, have "Hot Spare" or sit "Tentative". Usually you wind up flying. Both Hot Spare and Tentative you're expected to have the jet preflighted and ready. The difference is Hot Spare you have a standard fuel load already on board and have a 30 minute launch window. Tentative no fuel loaded and a 45 min window.

5. Do all crew meals come from catering or is there a meal allowance?

A little of both. 98% of the meals are ordered from the crew meal menu on the company iPhone. 7 meal choices each for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. If the food is inedible or is a no show you can get a meal deviation and buy your own food. Many pilots will set the parking brake and go eat if crewfood doesn't show, depending on how long before they get another chance to eat.

Home basing is not a reality for new hires nor for other pilots. New hires have 100 bases to pick from. You can change that base every 15 days.

I am not sure what the date of hire cut off is but most pilots have access to HBA...Home Basing Airports.....it is really just a name but it means about 220 or so bases. There hasn't been any real talk of allowing new hires access to HBAs.

1. Not sure, hopefully, others can chime in. Aviation Interviews.com would be a goo place to check.
2. New hires aren't eligible for HBA's. Crew bases only. (hopefully this policy will change).
3. Company arranges hotels and crews arrange transportation with any of the above. Tips and cab/uber/lyft fares are reimbursed by the company.
4. Technically, you never get off reserve at NJ, because of the on demand nature of the flying. Usually, you fly all day, but get occasional tentative or Hotspare(aka crew rot) at the FBO. Usually in 6 hour or more blocks, and can be anytime of day or night.
5. You can get up to four crew meals per day. The first two are non-taxable and the 3rd/4th are taxable. You also get per diem while on tour. Most pilots get two meals per day and save the per diem. If your crew meal is inedible the company will provide a meal deviation.

Thank you for the responses. So, if I live near TUL, I would make TUL my base. Then, they NetJets would positive space me to wherever my trip begins. Is that right?

I would have to look and see if Tulsa is on the list but, yes, the company buys tickets to get you to and from the airplane you are assigned to. It’s one of the worst parts of the job....



Edit: Yes, Tulsa is an available crew base.

I'll 2nd the aviation interviews website. When I did my in person NetJets interview in 2005 I was only asked 2 questions I hadn't already read about. One was situational with the Captain coming in hot and fast and disregarding your inputs to go around, what would you do?

The other was an ops question, the one were how much lower can you go below mins on an ILS if you see the approach lights.

I had the "tech" interview fortunately, not the HR interview. I avoided questions like "if you were a color what color would you be and why?" :rolleyes:

I know it's different now so check the website for the latest intel.

NJA has ceased interviewing pilots and is interested in wait staff with a pilot certificate. To those applying, please keep in mind NJA management feels they can teach anyone to fly an airplane but customer service skills come naturally and not everyone has them.

For those of you who applied and didn't get hired, please understand you didn't get turned down for a pilot position. You were turned down for a waiter/bellman/etc position. We are working to change this.

I have been highly interested in NJ for years. But FO pay at NJ has always given me pause. Any idea if FO pay will increase anytime soon? Also, if this mandatory retirement ends up a reality, how will that affect movement?
