Yes we all know what a great pilot you are and how financially savy you are. You should be on one of those Flexjet commercials. You could talk about how you’re better than other pilots at the company you complain about.

Funny things is, I bet if you got into an airplane without a VNAV and were given a decent via, you’d lose your mind and jump out of the airplane. You’re giving guys a hard time for being new on the automation, when you probably couldn’t fly without it.

Can somebody shed an example PBS schedule? I know you bid for the days you want off rather than an actual schedule, but an example line would really help me out. Thanks!

Actually no, you do bid for the actual schedule you want. Each pilot is presented with the lines that are available to that specific pilot based on lead in restrictions, training, and vacation. In a given bid period (28 days) you may be presented with 9000+ lines to choose from. You rank them in order of preference. You can bid for as few or as many as you want. Generally speaking, you put some effort into your top 50-ish choices, and then after that just do a "select all" for the style of schedule you are after,

Lines vary from 12-18 days ON per bid period, 4-8 day rotation length. Want 7 on, 14 off, 7 on? possible with PBS

Perfect. How many hours a year roughly are you all flying?

A lot. maybe 600-700 or so a year. Some guys say they do 800 but they'd have to be working the max days per bid for that.

Awesome, thanks for the responses. Are you enjoying the job/company? I’m trying to decide between this and a regional...

Depends on your end goal.

Maybe it’s changed, but you generally had to be ridiculously senior to reliably get PBS to work in your favor. For me it was pretty much 3 weekends a month and every possible holiday for years on end until I hit the top 10% of FO’s and then rinse and repeated with upgrade.

Also keep in mind that PBS is based on a 28 day month. So while the system will usually seek to work you 16 days a month on average, it’s actually more like 17-19 days a calendar month depending on how the schedule falls, and how many days are in that month.

It’s not s PBS problem, but rather the size of the company and the needs of the model.

I know first year FOs in the Challenger fleet that held Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, and Christmas off under PBS bidding this year.

Uh huh. And what did they offer the scheduler to do them that favor? Because it was very uncommon in the past.

I'm the First year FO and I had Thanksgiving off and I am currently scheduled off for Christmas. Never spoken to anyone in scheduling in my life. How can you spin this one?
