It must still be shut down for people that don’t know anyone that works there.

Default Flex schedule

Does anyone have examples of recent flex schedules? Wondering what it looks like to get the extra $12k per year. I am going to go back and ready the thread, but what kind of time frame would you expect someone coming in that has similar experience as a captain in these operations to be able to upgrade?

PIC,

I‘ll take a shot at answering your question but I don’t fly the Flex so I can’t copy and paste a “schedule” per se.

Fundamentals of the bidding process:

1. Based on seniority (no surprise)
2. It is called the Flex 18 because you work 18 days a month. That includes the travel day to start and end of each “rotation”.
3. You bid monthly for Flex 18 versus folks who are on the 15/13 or 8/6 bid just once a year.
4. One bids for “days” off not to exceed the 12 (or 13 for 31 days in a month) in three blocks of time. I.e. 1-4, 8-11, 15-18 of a month.
5. You also state the maximum days you wish to be out on rotation but don’t think the algorithm won’t figure out if you put a max of 5 days that you will get to work just 15 days for the month with the days off I stated above.
6. Bids come out mid-month so you won’t know your schedule until about 10-14 days prior if that is an issue.

The extra $1 is paid out each month above SIC pay.

Upgrades slowed during COVID but things are beginning to increase as we are flying more and additional aircraft pending for arrival. Everyone, not just XO, in the 135 world will see higher shift of pilots to the hiring trend in the 121. To predict how it will look in 6 months is tough. For perspective, pre-Covid, X - 1 yr, Challenger 18 months. Mileage may vary. I’ve been here 2. Yrs and head to upgrade later this month but all due to Covid delays.

Hope that helps.

In reading my reply above it may not have been clear what I was saying regarding this statement.

"I.e. 1-4, 8-11, 15-18 of a month."

To be clearer, I bid for 1-4 Aug off, 8-11 Aug off and 15-18 Aug off. Based upon seniority, I may or may not get those exact days off but scheduling knows to try to give me as many of those specific days off as possible.

I never flew under a Preferred Bidding System (PBS) but it is similar in nature in that one is bidding for a floating set of days off. The good thing some folks like about it is that you can bid a large block of flying days in a row that will allow you to get more than a standard 6 days off when one is flying an 8/6 schedule. It all depends upon your set of circumstances.

I alluded that there is only one bid opportunity a year for 8/6 & 15/13...not exactly true. Because people are leaving, upgrading, new hires, there is a quarterly bid cycle that allows rebidding of one's rotations. I believe Flex is on a 4 month cycle instead of 3 months but again I'm sure others on here can correct that if they know more.

The extra money is nice and some like the option to have more days off in a row...thanks for your interest.

As always, thank you for the detailed information. Do you think XO Jet will ever go to a straight 7/7 schedule like NetJets and Flexjet?

During the interview process over the last couple of months, the way the Flexible scheduling option was explained to me is that if you select Flexible, you have to stay on it for 4 months, then you can switch to regular 15/13, for one rotation if you desire, and then switch back to flexible for no less than 4 months. So- no minimum for the 15/13, but a minimum of 4 months for the Flexible. Pay for Flexible scheduling for the entire year is an extra $12K, so figure it is an extra grand a month that you are on it. You bid for the days off as Chase was saying. You can swap/trade with counterparts when on flexible scheduling.

What is the 401K match? Are there other soft pay benefits? Are pilots hanging their hat at XO or are most treating it as a stepping stone to something else?

This is from the airline profile here on APC regarding 401K, and I believe to be accurate: “100% match up to $5,000 company contribution per year”.

As for pilots “hanging their hat”, XOJET has all kinds. We have plenty of younger and mid-career folks who may very well take advantage of the current hiring wave and find their next “dream job”, and we also have plenty of folks who are quite happy staying at XO or are retired from somewhere else (like and myself). If you’re worried about movement, expect plenty…

Dnr

Hard to predict the future but based upon past history of the company and projected plans going forward, I don’t see it happening.
