As a former 135 jet guy, former NetJet guy, and current Spirit pilot I think my background and experience are relevant.

If you want to work for an airline then go to an airline. Working for any 135/91k will delay your progress and seniority. I'm junior to guys at Spirit who went the 121 regional route even though I've been at this longer than they have. Adding a 135/91/91k to your resume now is nothing more than a pause button.

In our training program the 135/91 have to highest failure rates. Period. The 91k guys (we have a lot of ex Netjets and Citation Shares) do better but still not as good as their regional counterparts. It isn't that they can't do it but they haven't been doing it. The regional guys have been doing the same thing, to the same airports, to nearly the same gates. They are ahead of the game and I'd much rather have a former regional guy as my FO than a 135/91/91k/DOD/MIL. It isn't impossible to get to a higher plane, double entendre intended, but it will be harder.

Southwest has been hiring a lot of NJA guys but it isn't a 'leg up' to go work there. You'd have a much faster track if you went to any regional versus NetJets.

American is hiring 99.5% from .MIL and flow throughs only. Unless your dad has pics of someone doing something they shouldn't I'd go to the best regional with a flow if AA is your objective.

Delta has a big hard on for Skywest, girls, transanything, and .MIL.

I don't know anyone who wants to work for United so I have no input on that one.

Spirit isn't as 135/91 friendly as we used to be but Frontier is still favorable to them. We're turning away some very qualified people right now and I just don't see how SIC Citation time will benefit you at all. Working for Netjets was detrimental to my career track that put me a decade behind other pilots. Unless you want a lifetime of working to death in a Phenis then I'd recommend anywhere but there or one of their similars.

3. No domiciles, "home basing". If you live near an airport with regular mainline/regional air service, XO flies you to and from on your start day (either Tues or Wed) and end day. Many 135 companies do that, not unique for XO but for a commuter like myself for 13 yrs, it is a nice stress reducer.

4. Upgrades in the X is around 1 yr, possibly less. The Challenger is little longer 18 months or so. XO keeps a ratio of about 60/40 CAs and FOs.

5. No flow thru to any operation but a large number of XO folks have gotten hired at SWA. I know the reputation of XO pilots who have been hired by SWA in the eyes of the hiring department is high.....no guarantees but the culture is similar (being former SWA I can say that with confidence).

Hope that helps
Thank you so much for the info

You're welcome and best of luck. I'm making the most money, with the best schedule, and the best benefits I've every had at Spirit but I also live in base. If you have to live in BFE, ID then NetJets is probably a better deal.

I'm at NetJets for almost 20 years. If you want to get to a major, stay 121. I upgraded to Captain in under a year in 2001. That upgrade will now be about 10 years. I expect the upgrade at a regional will be quicker. The flying at NetJets is definitely more challenging than any 121. But the majors will value 121 flying more. Getting to the left seat is key... and it ain't gonna happen soon at NetJets.

I did regionals (Envoy) and walked away with 2300 121, basically 1000 121 PIC in about 2 year 9 months or so.

left for a 91 gig and am super happy with my decision. Straight into a G500 CA position and also flying a helo. Basically mainline legacy narrowbody pay but with more time off, better benefits and live in base somewhere I actually want to live.

For reference I had about 12 months left to flow to AA.

There’s not a one size fits all solution, but i will say that regional time and particularly 121 PIC has made things a heck of a lot easier especially when negotiating my pay package.

No brainer..

Get yours 121 time. Then reevaluate what you want to do. The fractional will always be available in the future but the airlines, maybe have a shorter window. Go work for SkyWest or someone like that as they seem to have a path to a lot of majors plus they have by far the best bases in the country as a whole.

If you get bored in a few years you can jump international or something like that for a challenge. They care about 121 time not little twin time part 91/135. Majors love the regionals. If you want to be home based then look at the fractional, the help wanted sign will ALWAYS be open at the fractionals. BUT get your 121 time first....
