There is no seat lock for new hires. However you cannot switch airframes until you can upgrade into that airframe. For instance, you get the phenom and want out. 2 ways, quit or upgrade within a year and bid out of it (4 to 5 years maybe longer) into the other aircraft. If you're gonna legacy or challenger, when you upgrade, you upgrade to the phenom. As you upgrade to captain ON A NEW AIRCRAFT), you are seat locked for 24 months. You will always upgrade into the phenom. It has north of 60% turnover margin. Its the moneymaker of the fleet yet costs the company the greatest in initial training. Goes for red label IRL AND DRL.

So if you are hired into the Challenger jet and you are an FO for just say 2 years and want to upgrade you go to the Phenom jet as a captain then after that you can go to the Challenger as a captain? I'm I reading that right?

Yes sir. Pending seniority availability etc. Most don't upgrade. Just stay FOs

Is Captain pay on the Phenom that bad that people would rather not upgrade into it?

Ok cool. Then once you get into the Phenom jet as a captain and stay there for a year or two would you be able to move up to other aircraft depending on the availability as a captain?

You’re only moving on from the Phenom quickly if your interview and are accepted into an international red label position. Otherwise, get comfortable in the small Embraer product. You’re going to be there for a while.

Check the employee handbook. Seatlock is 39 months.
