Default Am I nuts!??

Flew for years with RTA and Flops. Got laid off during the big "R" and never made it back. After years of not flying, I made it into another career and enjoyed the home life, weekends, Holidays...etc. You get the picture. Now with 6+ years or so to retirement, I'm getting itchy to go back and fly again. The pay is so much better, than back in the day, and I miss the views.....What say you?

Yes, you're nuts. Remember thou, Part 135 has no mandatory retirement age so you can fly as long as you can pass the medical. Speaking of which I'd go get a Class 1 just to make sure you can.

yes, seems your time away/distance from it (like it does with most negative experiences over time) has romanticized your faded memories of a business with many MANY more nasty characters with little recourse or rights than when you were here. Mainly due to all the ground pogue/retreads who have wormed their way into aviation due simply to demand regardless of their total lack of ability or character.
imho.

I say, if you love to fly, go for it. Life is not just about money and days off. It's also about doing what we love. I started with NeJets at age 57 and have enjoyed the job immensely. You will work hard and you won't ever make major 121 pay. So what? The flying is a lot more fun. You will also find that the crushing negativity on APC doesn't exist on the job. The vast majority of the pilots you will fly with feel as I do.

Go for it.

It is the best job in the world, not perfect as nothing in life is, 135 is a lot of fun, I loved it and I made a promise to myself that I will be back someday. NetJets, XoJET, Flyexclusive, take a look at those companies threads, shred the negativity, chose the one that fits you better and go for it. What the hell...

Planesense will take you, probably even as a direct entry captain with that prior 135 work. good place if you don't mind working hard in a single engine turboprop. QOL on the road is one of the best from what I can tell and commuting is done on the company dime as a scheduled duty day.

I recommend them because if it's the flying and life on the road that you miss, it's one of the best. The PC12 takes you pretty "exciting" places all up and down the eastern seaboard and now out west some too. You will be flying an airplane, not pushing buttons to sbarro in the terminal.

Anyway, think about what you want out of your experience and go for the company that offers that.

Also, if you have a family, they might get some sticker shock once you're away from them for periods of time they are not used to. something to think about.

Good luck!
