Fractionals may be hit by airline cuts
 

NetJets is making contingency plans to get crews home if severe restrictions are put on the airlines. I don't know of any Fractionals that could operate without significant airline service to move crews around. I guess they could DH crews on company owned aircraft but that's very, very, expensive. I saw a news report from an expert who said they thought airports would be closed in the next few days (also train stations). I don't know how they can do that, people don't just fly for vacation, they fly to get medical treatment at specialized clinics, to go see a critically ill family member, etc. What are the other fractional pilots hearing from your companies?

This is a day by day changing environment. As of now, companies, specially Flexjet, is looking at all options to keep our crews safe while still maintaining our daily operations. We are still flying, we are still busy, and as that may change in the coming weeks, the company will adapt to the changing climate. The company is looking for options to transport crews to airplanes in the event air travel is restricted. This is unchartered waters for all levels of the industry. All I and anyone else can ask is stop with speculation without facts, anyone who thinks they know what the future holds is lying or guessing, plain and simple. All I can say, as a frictional pilot, I am hoping for the best for everyone, both 121 and 135. Were all a family and all need each other in this aviation industry, and can lend a helping hand to pilots industry wide.

Well said. I'm glad to be part of Flexjet now, but hope everyone in this roller coaster industry survives this with minimal loss. God Bless all of us at this time.

Another looming challenge is Part 142 training availability. At the two biggest, FSI and CAE, a pretty hefty percentage of they're instructors are in the "high or moderate risk" age brackets. I'm hearing some of them are refusing to come in. I can't see either provider moving forward with "initial" classes much longer to comply with the social distancing guidelines. If the airlines get shut down getting pilots to and from aircraft and home base is complicated by pilots not being able to get to their .297 rides.

Care to explain or have any idea what these contingency plans are? Heard a rumor it was reserving a group of cars at predetermined dates/locations, cancel if not needed then repeat for another date. If true total dick move.

With very few people traveling, I can't see how making reservations is going to prevent someone else from getting a car.

Passed through the Mother Ship today and had a brief conversation with the two top dogs manning the operation. I asked directly about a national airspace shutdown.

There are rumblings from DC. If the infection rate graph does not flatten or, better yet, decline right soon, expect a shutdown of most, if not all, non-government flight operations within days.

If you have ever eaten an NJA crew meal, you are immune to the coronavirus, so at least there’s that.

What did NJA, Flex, FltOps, and CS do after 9/11?

NetJets is allowing for much more rental cars if the crews are OK with it. They are allowing them for getting to and from hotels now also. The union also has members helping out at the busiest locations to give crews rides to hotels and then sanitizing their cars between each ride. This is all that is certain so far. As the situation evolves, travel will have to evolve with it.
