What will your W2 from Alaska show?

A senior large cabin FO can still make $180K here easily.

Happy to hear airline life is working out for you. If you’re 15+ years at NJA, that’s well over $200K. I doubt you’re making anywhere near that at airline X unless you’re at UPS or FedEx.

How many years will it take for you to reach the income you’ve lost?

Of course I am at one of those. And it took me exactly one year to get back to what I was making as a topped out Capt at NJ. I did loose money first year, no doubt, but got a fat check from NJ for unused vacation, plus much smaller tax bill, it wasn’t that bad at all. And year 2 forward, it has been a tad better even with the NJ ‘18 agreement and about even with this new one as well.

The point I am trying to make, I know full well people get comfortable and don’t want to start over, like the dynamic of the job. I was there, and NJ is a good job. But barring the starting over or actually liking the job, every junior PIC and every SIC would fare better in most ways. It says a lot when a 15+ year Captain, after only one year, can make almost if not the same as a puny FO. Plus the schedule flexibility, etc.

People glorify the NJ job, when it is an average job. People like the job, good for them, whatever makes you happy!!

My W2 was 30k off that not including my DC 401k amount, and I haven't stepped foot on a jet in 10 months. Have you read my previous posts to realize i don't care what comes out of your mouth? But I guess that's cool that a 12 year large cabin FO there can make 180k working their butts off. Super cool!

I’ll agree NJA can’t compete with the compensation package at UPS or FEDEX. No argument here at all.

A pilot at SWA, yeah we can debate. But not at FedEX or UPS after year 1 pay. NJA isn’t even in the ball park against those two. Congrats to getting hired there.

Making $150k and not touching a jet in 10 months? Only during Covid with the help of taxpayer backed loans. So, you’re welcome.

Nope. There is absolutely no debate between SWA and Netjets. SWA hands down better than Netjets in every aspects. Compensation, QOL, Schedule flexibility, retirements. It’s like compare apples and oranges. Not even close. But why do you feel
the need to? If you enjoy ur job that cool. But don’t embellish and make it into something that it’s not. It’s not the greatest aviation job out there. Far from it.

I have a couple buds that left NJA for SWA and they feel a little different than you do. Still can’t make more than $120K and took $100k pay cuts. To each is own and glad you’re happy.

I’m not trying to say that NJA is the greatest job out there. Every place has its faults and d-bags to work with. I’m saying that it’s come a long way since a lot of you have left and the total compensation has been greatly improved since 2018.

We have schedule stability now thanks to several reasons. Life on the road isn’t that bad anymore. 14 hour overnights seem to be the new norm. I’m usually ready to go after that anyways. The company has been great to work with since the silos have been destroyed. But like all places we do have our good days and bad days. There have been just a lot more good than bad.

Until 2018, I couldn’t get out of here fast enough and had apps out. Mid 2018 changed that and 2019 locked it in that this was the place for me. I’m one of those people that really enjoy general aviation and can’t stand going to the same place over and over again. Yes our retirement still has some strides to make. Yes, our compensation package, especially for FO’s needs improvement.

But here it is in a global pandemic when most airlines are hurting, forcing early retirement, zero credit lines, etc and taking tax payer money.

NJA didn’t take a dime and still made money. On top of that we got a new contract with a lot more improvements, a bonus, free healthcare for the entire family, more productivity pay, and at a time the company didn’t have to do a thing. Financial stability and ability to weather the financial storm are job security indicators for the long game.

How many airlines would be where they are now without the government bailout?

Our payscales are very 'top-heavy" - dismal for newhires, but eventually reaching a workable level after year 10. With the FDP rigs, small-cabin pilots with at least 14 years of longevity are currently earning narrow body wages. (both CA and FO's)

More specifically, pilots on the 52, 7&7, and 60 are making LCC narrow-body wages, while those on the 72 and 76 are making Legacy narrow body wages.

I have friends who are Captains at every single airline out there... we compare notes from time to time so I stand by this statement.

Of course, we work a LOT harder than either of those groups so in my opinion we are still ridiculously underpaid.

FedEx and UPS are wide-body carriers with significantly greater compensation packages.

Congratulations to those of you who have successfully landed at one of those operations.... Why on earth are you wasting time trolling this forum?

some wouldn’t exist. SWA is a great company but far from a utopia, I’m married to a SWA pilot, it’s probably the best 121 company out there, except for maybe Delta, but they have their issues too, it’s more than amusing that all these butt hurt alumni constantly show up trying to say l” look at me, I’m living large “ it’s actually a wee bit sad, I was off of this forum for a couple of months, and when out of curiosity I perused the threads there were the usual suspects in all their glory, , GOD forgive me but I just love to stir it up a bit, we few, we happy few, at NJA know how this place has improved, it maddens some that we are happy, and word, that this place is now a valid career destination, Gods grace we are managing to thrive without a bailout, unlike our 121 brethren, except freight , I love freight ,now UPS, and FEDEX are quite simply the best jobs out there in 121 land , but Kalitta is the most fun, but now I’m digressing, cheers, and peace out 😎✊💙😂
