Only they aren’t a flight attendant. Just a passenger in the eyes of the Feds. Hence the CH. I have heard of a lot of passengers just not wanting them on board though. Most of our clients just want to serve themselves. Really there is no need for a CH, but it’s the vista outlook on life. This isn’t Europe and they need to stop treating it like it is. Also, the uniforms? While wonderful in the 121 works aren’t meant for 135 ops. I’ve had white uniforms in the past and they are the absolute worst. Lucky enough for you X drivers you don’t have to wear the blazer. A

chase Im happy you comment on here and I learned a lot from what life on the line was like. The flex 10 isn’t the best schedule. Sure you keep your Benefits, but you also work more than 1/2 time to get half pay. Did it save my bacon when guys like you volunteered for it? Yes. Am I great-full? You betcha. Hiring for aircraft that aren’t on property, or has no contract in ink does no good to the pilot group.

chase Im happy you comment on here and I learned a lot from what life on the line was like. Thanks...I sense a “but..” coming. 😉

The flex 10 isn’t the best schedule. The best schedule is every other Tuesday for full pay...old 121 joke but I get what you are saying. It was implemented as we all know because of do-overs that I’m sure some would like to “do-over”, I.e. be more sure of planes on property before hiring..as you mentioned.

Sure you keep your Benefits, but you also work more than 1/2 time to get half pay. For anyone reading this who may not know...this fact was clearly explained in detail to all pilots and no part of the Flex 10 program had any gotchas after signing up. To me it is a marginal difference so I can’t speak for others who took it. In fact for me it is a blessing:

1. Off for Thanksgiving week and afterwards when before I wasn’t.

2. Saw grandkids, winner.

3. Flex X will allow me to have arthroscopic surgery and rehab without having to use any sick leave, old schedule wouldn’t have been able to do that.

Doesn’t fit everyone but not everyone had to take it. Yep...voluntarily..the program is to go for several months, not a permanent thing. If the pilots who signed up don’t have a problem with it, I would hope others can accept it and we focus forward rather than diagramming missteps.
No pity for me my friend and I know you aren’t implying it.

Did it save my bacon when guys like you volunteered for it? Yes.

If later in your flying career you can return the favor then all is good my friend...I know others at XO before me struggled and worked hard to get pay rates to where they are..my simple way of trying to keep them there..not a martyr or super human..just a short yellow school bus guy with exceptional career luck
. Am I great-full? You betcha.

Hiring for aircraft that aren’t on property, or has no contract in ink does no good to the pilot group. I don’t know where the fault lies, well above my pay grade and Gary Kelly stopped returning my calls when I was at SWA so I didn’t bother to advise/consent to KT either 😉

.....maybe they had several all lined up, GUARANTEED type of thing, and some other 135 carrier swooped in and made a better deal,

.....or financing fell through,

.....Pre buy inspection resulted in airplanes not to be such a great deal after all..too costly

.....or a dozen other reasons none of us are aware of

..... lease restrictions by owner to XO that weren’t made clear until nearly closing,

...most CFO/CEO don’t purposefully drive their head into a brick wall, so again, a solution was offered,
satisfactory to the pilot group with volunteers seemingly happy about it.

As they say, “the perfect is the enemy of the good”...not a perfect solution but a pretty good one I think, others can disagree...no worries.

i make enough mistakes when I fly to make folks wonder about me but fortunately the next leg gives us some measure of redemption...not easy navigating all the moving parts an airline CEO is dealing with these days..not meant to sound like a company apologist but understand airline business well enough to know unexpected, unplanned events can alter decisions dramatically and what looked good yesterday looks like a divert to another field today.

No company is perfect and as I said in my original reply I’m sure some gnashing of teeth went on over the dilemma faced but here we are. Let’s hope for the best and that there is sufficient motivation to solve a temporary over-manning issue so we will all look back 6 months from now upon Flex 10 as just a small piece of XO history but with a happy ending and all pilots back to full pay, preferred schedule and flying loads of folks with more airplanes.
.
Hope you had a good Thanksgiving with family or friends. If you were working, thanks for keeping the customers happy. Would be happy to cover next at giving if you did and our seats match up.
