NetJets a realistic goal?
 

Hi all looking for info from the wise elders


Im a CFI CFII MEII working part time in DAL, while also working at AIG Aviation as an aviation insurance underwriter insuring 30 million dollar jets all day. Paper pushing is getting really boring and I'm looking to flying full time and subsequently as a career. The issue is that I have NO intention of flying for the airlines with the amount of student loan debt that I have, I simply can't afford it. Netjets seems like a great option not only because of the pay, but also because of the variety. By the time im comfortable with the amount of debt i've paid off, i'll have about 3000TT 1000-750ME and about 300 instrument (2 years from now). My question (finally), is it a viable possibility for me to be hired at NetJets if I have no turbine time, or ANY corporate experience for that matter? I'd meet the mins, yes, but mins often don't mean anything...would I be competitive? Would there be a limit as to what equipment I would be placed in? I mean, going from Seminole's to a Falcon 2000 flying the Hilton sisters around seems a bit daunting.

PS How tough is it to get based at DAL these days...and what is thier commuting policy?

I know of three pilots who were hired without turbine time. Dont worry you wont go right to the falcon. More than likely fly a straight winged citation to start. DAL is not one of thier bases (yet) and you have to live in base. I believe there are 5 or 6 cities right now.

You're probably going to have an uphill battle to fight, but that said it's not impossible. I don't personally know of anybody that has gone straight to NetJets from an instructing career though. (I do know one person that went from flying freight in a Navajo to NJA, however I'd consider that to be a more substantial "piston" than a Seminole.)

A lot is going to depend on the people you know (Without internal recommendations I'd probably put your chances at about 5%), and the industry/hiring pool at the time that you apply. I know that NJA has turned down candidates with 4000TT and 3000Turbine. If there's a bunch of qualified individuals (that have turbine time as well as corporate/airline PIC experience), you're going to have a tough time.

On the other hand, if they haven't opened up new domiciles by then and there still isn't home basing, you chances might improve. Few people want to work at TEB or LAX these days, and the pool seems to be starting to dry up, particularly with more majors opening their hiring windows.

Either way, start networking and trying to find some internal sponsors that can help you out. I'd also do the best that you can to start saving some money on the off chance that you need to spend 6 months- a year at a regional flying turbine equipment before you are competitive. Of course don't forget that you DEFINITELY need to have an ATP to even consider APPLYING to NetJets.

I would like to get to NetJets at some point as well, i think i saw 2500/500 as mins but they would probably like to see a type and jet time too. i dunno though.

DAL is a NJA domicile, and you do NOT have to live anywhere near your base, but you have to be there on day 1, you can live in china and have DAL as your domicile as long as you are at DAL at your report time on day 1.

Thanks for all your input guys! To any of the the Netjets guys out there, do any of you know a guy named Bill Loeb or Wes Treco? They were instructors at Riddle that i worked with and were picked up by Netjets, they had beaucoup time though.

With a two-year timeframe to work with you have plenty of time to network locally and get some part-time flying in something like a King Air, or possibly a Citation to at least get a little turbine time under your belt.
