Default Cost of training G550

Anyone know the cost and location of getting a G550 type rating are there minimuns for flight hours that you have to have even before you can get the rating?

A pilot in my dept told me $60,000 for FSI in Savanah, GA. But also he said the average daily rate for a G550 contract pilot was $1,800. I don't know about min flight time, but I'm sure each training institution has different requirements. IMHO I wouldn't even consider getting this type until I had 5000TT with extensive oceantic/international experence.

Sorry, but odds are that if you have to even ask what the minimums are for flight hours, you don't come close to qualifying.

That aside, why would you even care what the cost is? The only people that should care about the cost (or be paying it) is either a chief pilot, aircraft owner, or director of training.

I believe that type rating applies to the G550, GV, 450, and 350 with some differences training? I am sure if you have the money they would probably be glad to take it from just about anyone!

Well I am wondering about the price because my boss told me to look into it becuause he would like to buy this plane within the next year. The hours- well you are correct in assuming that if I have to ask I don't near have the experience I need; but I am wondering if my boss finds a captain that is already typed would me being typed in that plane allow me to sit SIC?

I got my GV Sim Type in Dubai. The cost was quite expensive.

I do believe in NYC Flight Safety has the new G550 Sim . I am not sure though.
Dubai has an operating G550 since last May 2007

As far concern flight time you need the basic JAA ATPL hours if you flight overseas

Ok. Sorry then for jumping down your throat. If you're doing some background for your boss, cool. Hope you can land the job.

If he's looking at purchasing new (don't know how long the delivery wait is right now, but with enough money, just about anything can be done), then a handful (2 or 3) of training slots may be negotiated into the sale price of the aircraft. (something to consider).

If you want straight numbers, I'd go directly to the source and call Flight Safety International. FSI has G550 sims in Philadelphia, PA and Savannah, GA. Right off the bat (without any idea of the cost) I would budget 50K per pilot for initial training/qualifications. Don't forget to consider the costs of time in type training to meet insurance mins to carry passengers (or hiring contract pilots to do "IOE")

As a follow-up to this question:

What do typical G-series flight departments do about recurrent training? Does this occur at a place like FSI every 6 months?

It would also be important to know not only the cost for the initial training, but also an estimate on ongoing training per pilot. Just curious - thanks in advance!

Depends on the company. Some do 6 month intervals, some do 9 month intervals, at the bare minimum, you'll have to do 12 month intervals.

Some companies might do 12 month recurrent and a one day instrument proficiency check in the sim at the 6th month interval.

Factors to consider are insurance minimums and premiums (does training more often have a pay back in a reduced premium?), crew qualifications (is it more prudent to send your crews more often based on a lack of qualifications/experience?), and corporate culture.

First year off of the 'free' new 550 training plan. Recurent was $32,000(RVSM, Emergency procedures and ditching) and Initial is +/- $75,000, FS SAV.
