Thanks again eglplt and all of you for the info offered. Looks I'll spend Sunday-Tuesday getting an ATP(weather permitting) than get my resume out as soon as that is done. I've looked at the cargo outfits pretty thoroughly as well, and while those are bigger planes etc., this is in my opinion the best way to go for QOL, security, and schedule, and pay, and if the bottom falls out, you now have the experience to find a local 91 job.

I have made the 6.5 year investment and never upgraded, and never passed on an upgrade oporutnity.(they never came) I am also looking to make the switch. I'll be getting my ATP next month and then applying to the fracts as well.

Good Luck

I know guys that fly for netjets, flexjet, and flightoptions. Several of them leaving 121 carriers and they are glad they made the move.

NJA Capt or any other NJA pilot,

I am currently a CRJ Capt at ASA and am tired of the commuting, crappy pay and very crappy QOL. I make $64 an hour at ASA and am deciding if the move to NJA is worth or if the grass is really greener it. My goal is to get KDAL as a base or the whole thing would not work for me at all. I know I will take a paycut, but I will be in a much better place in 5 years at NJA than I would be at ASA. Plus the regional industry just seems to be going down the tube. I am very good to our customers as well as a people person. What is your opinion of a 5yr regional pilot going to a fractional and staring at the bottom all over again. I have over 3000 TT and only 200 PIC Jet. My goal is time with my family, pay(eventual 100K/yr), and a company to stay for the next 20 years. What is the upgrade time to any Capt position at NJA? Thanks for all of your help. I just received my NJA application package.

Well, a few hundred Comair, Midway and Independence guys have done it. There is no comparison to airline flying other than multiple legs and PDC. As I said above, none of the former "RJ" pilots I know would ever go back.

It will take some time to figure out now that the contract is done. Upgrades had slowed to a trickle and estimates were 3-5 years. However, there were 40 Capt bids posted this week and a similar amount 2 weeks ago. Add that to the fact that we will start G150 deliveries next year I will "guess" that upgrades will improve.

I just received my NJA application package.
Send it. You can always say "no" later if you change your mind.

Thanks for the quick reply. I will get it overnighted tomorrow. It seems like an excellent opportunity and I have not heard of any complaints yet. My only worry is not getting the base I want even though I live 30 min from KDAL.

AirlinePilot.com shows the most junior capt being hired with a hire date of Aug 05. That equates to a 6 month upgrade if I am reading this correctly.

Thanks again for the help. Any other gouge for the interview/company would be great also.

The interview is very easy going, but prepared to fly a very touchy pitch/roll sensative Citation Sim. This Sim has claimed many victims through the interview process. If you don't have Citation time. I'd get an hour or two in the sim before you go. The profile is out of Atlanta and you'll have an instructor working power and setting up radios.

Good luck.

I almost made a reference to that....

Before the contract was ratified, MANY senior FOs were withholding bids. It is a long, long, long story. There are currently approx 750 FOs on the list. Looking at that alone you can tell it will take longer than 6 months.

Back in 1999-2001 almost everyone upgraded in less than 6-8 months.
