Default netjets question

just a quick question for netjets pilots... im about the get furloughed from a regional... my ultimate goal is nj... I have an offer to fly PIC at cape air... I know nj is all about customer service and i think cape air is better on my resume for cs then flying at a 121... just wondering what your opinions are and what you would do... stay at the regional and try to fight out the furlough for more Jet time or go to cape air and get pic prop and a lot of cs... I currently have 700 SIC turbine... thanks

I think Cape Air is great place to go, you'll get the multi PIC and the cs experience will help you with NJ.
Good luck.

Unless you get the ATR 42 you are wasting your time. And the ATR 42 was only hiring First Officers last time I checked. I believe they even have about a 3-5 year wait to upgrade in that airframe. How long do you think it will take you to get to PIC at the regional if you wait out the furlough?

i wont be able to upgrade ever... its ridiculous... before we started cuts the upgrade was 5 years... been here 1 1/2 years... everyone says that nj really doesnt care about the pic anymore mainly cs... why do you think cape would be useless??

I was in a similar situation at my regional although I wasn't near to getting furloughed upgrades had quit and downgrades had begun. This was one of the "good" regionals but I had only gone there for pic time anyway. I quit for a corporate/135 king air pic spot. netjets is my goal as well. any customer service would be good. that's more important to them then say 121 turbine time. guys with 121 turbine time are a dime a dozen. anything that could you apart from the pack on that front is the way to go in my opinion

Making the jump from a piston airplane to netjets will be a difficult proposition, the odds won't be on your favor. My guess, NJ never hires a guy without turbine experience again....However you do have 700 turbine hours, and Cape Air operates ATRs, so I don't think its a waste time...all of this is irrelevant once you get furloughed, you gotta put food on the table, bills to pay, and you MUST stay current.

Unfortunately, not many of us know what they are actually looking for to begin with at NJA. I think you should make the decision on what is best for you right now. NJA is a long shot. If we have 10,000 qualified resumes and we hire 400 next year your chances are pretty slim. Go somewhere were you are going to be comfortable at if you don't get NJA because looking at the numbers you may be there for a while. If CapeAir is a place you think you'd like to work for a few years then go there. If you are going to go there solely hoping you improve your chances at NJA then you might become miserable and it would be a bad move. Tough call.

Being on furlough is not fun an any job is a good job. And there are not many airlines hiring and if they are the upgrade time is 4-5 years.
Still cape Air is a good option: you get the PIC in multi, the customer service experience, get to fly fun routes in fun places like the Caribbean and the Cape, the first year pay is better than any regional flying a jet, is a great company to work for, and they treat you well. And if you add your jet 121 time I think you have a shot.
NJ will hire a low time (NJ minimums)"nice" guy with good people skills and customer service experience over any 20,0000 hrs jack a...s.
