Upgrade Time
Can you tell me what the typical Upgrade time to CA is for Netjets,XOJets etc....?
|
I don't think anyone can guess this answer for NJA. I upgraded in 2 years (1.5 yrs ago). My buddy was hired 5 months after me. He is well into year 3 without an upgrade and 30 guys in from of him (based on the results that came out this morning). New hires today will probably be nothing less then 4 years but it could be 5 or more. Too hard to tell. The more junior you are the longer the upgrade time.

With total pilot projections (5000) and the number of pilots on the list now (2800+), anyone hired after 3000 will be looking at attrition based upgrades only.
Wow. Never thought of it that way. Hmmm. |
How else would you look at it? I don't mean to sound condescending, but it's really simple math. Upgrades are a result of two things; Growth and Attrition.
And with a fractional airline you don't have an age rule to help you with attrition. It's just net growth of planes on property and AMEs telling guys they can't fly anymore. |

I think this will be the most likely scenario. Nobody is leaving anymore, 1-this job beats the majors, 2- there's nowhere to go..... Our older guys will eventually retire, and we might loose some of the younger guys to foreign airlines, those who want to fly a "big plane" and need to get that out of their system, but that's it. My advice, if you're 50 or mid 50s and money is an issue, you might want to look at CS, FX, or XoJet, much quicker upgrade. |

I've said that before, and nobody agrees with me. I even got flamed on a different forum.

Don't forget Avantair - upgrades are running 18-24 months but you will be paid less to fly there initially (base pay is lower). |

So remember... when you’re flying with that out of shape Captain who’s coming up on his six month physical... be sure to bring a couple bacon double cheese burgers and extra large fries that you just happen to be too full to eat.:D |
Most recent estimate that I've heard for CS was 3-4 years. There are no upgrades currently due to the retirement of the CJ1 and Bravo fleets.
