NJA a/c choices
Looking for some thoughts on a/c selection at NJA.
If one is given the choice from Falcon 2000, Gulfstream200, Hawker 800, Citation X, Citation Excel, Citation encore
Would appreciate any pros, cons within those particular fleets.
Thanks in advance.

I've been looking at the aviation interviews website and trying to make a correlation between the number of hours of the aplicant/age/ratings/etc to the type of aircraft assigned. I can see some relationship with the really high-time guys (8000+) and them getting larger jets, but other than that, I can't see a real pattern. Of course, one of the recurring questions in the interview is, "what aircraft would you like to fly". I was wondering if those of you who made it know how the company places you. Is there a rule they follow, or is it luck of the draw based on availability that month, etc...?

I didn't have a choice and I got the Excel. The Excel pays better than everything below the 2000EX, G-IV + V, and BBJs with the differences pay of $225 a month for FOs. Some on the Encore and Ultra get the differences pay, but most of the Excel/ XLS fleet gets the differences pay.
You could have 5000 hours on a Falcon 2000 and get assigned to the Hawker 400 if that is what they needed to staff when they offer the job. If the 2000 had an opening and you had a significant amount of experience flying international you would probably get it over someone who doesn't have the experience.
The Xs look really cool, but they probably work even harder than the Excels. The G-200s and Falcons do most of the European transcons for NJA (though the G-IVs and Vs probably get upgraded to by NJA owners much more often for those flights).
If I had the choice I would probably pick the 2000 first since you get the flight attendant and your job is easier. If you want to make more money take the Excel. If you want to work hard, but fly a really cool and fast airplane take the X (there is a mass captain exodus right now on the X since they really work their butts off). The Hawker 400 is probably the second easiest job here since they break a lot and they have so many limitations that they just don't fly that much (easier trips). The Hawker 800 is one of the most desired airplanes for Captains since they don't work as hard as most of the other fleets. The limited baggage space on the 800s means a lot of customers will request a different airplane when they have a lot of baggage- usually Excels for shorter flights and Xs for longer flights. The company is getting more and more Soverns (Sp?) now and I personally wouldn't want that one with the long legs that you can do at slow speed compared to the X , 2000, and G-200. The cockpit is about the same size in the Excel, X, and Sovern but the Excels seem to have a little more leg room since they have less avionics to cram in there. I would have been happy with anything they offered and I am glad I got the Excel since I will make more flying it. Good luck.
