So far I've heard of 5 who will accept the early out. There is still about a month and a half for people to decide if they will take that. Then there is a 3 year LOA with a sliver of pay and full medical, dental, and vision. That is the one the bottom guys will have to swallow. It is hard to say what will happen and how many will accept that one so that they will be getting something beyond 2 months of furlough pay if they don't take it and get shown the door. 3 years is a long time and it would really suck to take it and then possibly have people junior to yourself not take it and remain not furloughed. If I were on the bottom I'd wait until the last minute to take it and it would fully depend on how many have said they are taking the early out and 1 year LOAs that pay a bit more, but have more risk. Overall I'd say guys aren't so happy they may be out for 3 years, but at the same time appreciate they have a little choice and will at least get something while away if they must go.

So far, from what I've seen, it is considered an opportunity for those who like what they see. Voluntary furlough is not the idea. Of course, if someone wants to "take one for the team" and takes an option that does not fit his situation, that's his choice. I'll bet there are some who see this as a good deal. Some may see it as a way to get around the losses in their retirement plans. Others may see it as a chance to do something with their families previously not possible.

Kudos to NJASAP and NJA. Show me another company where this is possible. Truly, I hope you can, but I doubt it.

I'd love to be the lawyer for that lawsuit.
Well, the medical and PC's don't "check" someone's complete mental condition. Just because those two items check out okay does not mean they are fit to fly.

Well said Sailaway; the way I see it NJA could have saved tens on millions and just gone straight to furlough like everyone else in aviation has ever done. The fact that they are even offering anything shows what a class company this really is. 75% pay for 3 years with medical?!?!? I'd be all over that if I was secure otherwise (over 60).

Even the 3 year LTLOA is not a bad idea; I'm working on a side job flying an Ultra near home maybe once a month. With the $1,000 a month and medical they are offering it makes up for the slight pay cut, and I'll be home way more while we ride out the storm. It's almost like being granted permission to go have an affair on the road! :-) We will probably never get this chance again as long as we live.

I think the entire aviation industry should be making notes on how to treat people and their families the way NJA has done in recent years.

The problem is that the vast majority of them are on the "fly til you die" program!
For the record, we are not a geriactics center for deteriorated pilots. I've officially been told we have 330 guys over 62 at NJA. Which puts us in-line with the majors and anywhere else that now allows flying up to 65. I'm not saying there might be a one off issue now and then because of it; but I'd bet it is less than the percent of pilots that are just pure incompetent/lazy and more dangerous anyway.

Don't you feel a little cute right about now ........ I guess you're one of those anti-NJA guys that's all bitter on the inside. NJA is all class brother ..... sorry! :-)

Not to beat a dead horse, because plenty of guys have answered you already. But as a matter of FACT, NJA is paying "full fare" at FSI. I got that directly from two horses mouths on both sides of the fence. I was actually a little mad that we are paying "full fare" but if you think about it and what it does for the balance sheets it makes plenty of business sense for both companies. Cheers.
