No surprise. Avantair is the only "national" fractional that appears to be growing. Executive AirShares out of Kansas City (a "regional" fractional in the Midwest with domicilies in MKC, TUL, FTW and ICT) is also growing - albeit slowly (Avantair appears to be adding airplanes faster) with a new stable of Phenom 100s. I bet that many former Netjets, Citationshares, Flexjet and FLOPS owners have downsized to the P180 at Avantair or the Phenom 100 at Executive Airshares to reduce costs and yet retain flight benefits. It makes sense.

Avantair is a value play - you get a great, fuel-efficient, comfortable airplane for a lot less than shares in a Lear 45 or Citation XLS. The market for Avantair and Executive AirShares is also bigger - more people/businesses (especially now) can afford a P180 or Phenom 100 than a Lear 60 or a Citation Sovereign.

How would you be able to commute? I didn't think fractionals had any JS agreements.

You are considered a "commuter" if you live more then 2 hours away from your gateway.

Its not quite the traditional concept of cummuting as the 121 world uses due to the fact we dont/cant jumpseat into work.

On the flip side the company says that you can commute to work any way you wish just ALWAYS be in place for day one. Zero tollerance...

I meet their basic requirements with time to spare, but what are they really looking for in a new hire?

As for flight time I have no idea. I am not looking at the resumes so I cant quite tell what has come in the door.

In the past they have looked for.

1. FMS/Glass experience
2. 121/135 time
3. Turbine time

From my understanding they are looking at the resumes that have pilot recomendations attached first.

My advice to anyone who would like to work for Avantair is to submit your resume. If you dont submit it we are not going to call.....

thanks Celloman.... I have the 135/121 time and the turbine time. But I don't have much glass time. I'm not sure why the glass time is so important. anyone who has flown 1800 RVR approaches on steam gauges, can do it on glass. It will only be easier. Shoot, I could program a VCR back in the days before on screen graphics ... to imply I could not learn is just silly. I do some part time instructing in a G1000 equipped 172 and I made that transition easily.

Maybe I am missing something?

BTW, I sent my resume in today.

their ad says competitive mins are:
5000 tt
1500 multi
500 multi turbine

sounds about right in this economy.

I would agree with you, but I have heard that there have been many examples of guys with thousands of hours shooting approaches on steam gauges who simply can't or won't learn how to do it on glass. They don't pull requirements out of the air...they identify a need and make a requirement to address that need.

Glass....is it true that Avantair adopted a 2-tier payscale, one for current employees and one for new hires, and the new hires will be paid less than current employees? I know you were vey vocal against such a thing. Good for you.

There is only one pay scale.
