It was not out of context at all. This thread is titled "Scheduling troubles at Avantair", where we are talking about how the pilots there are having to fly more for roughly the same pay. Most of the pilots at Avantair, I assume, are not happy about this change. One of the pilots mentions how this change may cause them to hire, and you express your interest in wanting to work there. That tells me that you don't really care about the "scheduling troubles at Avantair' if there is some sort of personal gain for you. I'm not saying you shouldn't want to work there, but this thread was not the place to express your interest.

How is it a pay cut if they are going to pay you for working on day 8? Lets say they make you work every day 8 in the year your pay would go UP 14%. Second the only person to leave Avantair after the new schedule was implemented, left for the fact that his wife got a better job and he "didn't need to work any more". His words not mine.

Topgun, let me try to explain it.

In September Avantair would pay you 150% of the daily rate for working on Day 8. That equates to paying you for 36 hours on Day 8. Not bad.

In late October Avantair will only pay you 100% of the daily rate for working on Day 8. That equates to paying you for only 24 hours on Day 8, which equates to a 1/3 CUT IN PAY on Day 8. To make matters worse, they will only pay you for the full 24 hour daily rate IF you fly or get scheduled on a Piaggio at least once on that day. If they simply send you home on Day 8, your hours stop as soon as you get to your domicile. In September that wasn't the case. You got the full day's pay at 150% in September.

Surely you get this......

This is only true if you always worked day 8 before the date you said. However for most of the people that didn't work at all on day eight it is a raise.

Ok then........Avantair was able to give its pilots a RAISE during this recession. Excellent news!

It's only a raise if you get paid more for the same work. These guys are only earning more because they're working more. IMO

A factory employee works a 40 hour week for $9 per hour... he makes $360 per week.

If he works a 50 hour week for $8/hr, he makes $400 per week. This is still a pay cut because he is getting paid less for his time.

If he works 50 hours at his original $9 per hour, he makes $450 per week. This is not a pay raise nor a pay cut. He is working more hours for the same pay.

So here is the question for you Avantair pilots: is your hourly or daily average pay going up, down, or staying the same as a result of this change?

Flex, their 8th Day Pay fell from 150% down to 100%....a 1/3 PAY CUT.

Day 8 now becomes regular DAILY PAY.......unless you are simply sent home during that shift without being scheduled on a company aircraft. In that case, your DAILY PAY now drops to HOURLY PAY, yet another PAY CUT.

In both of these cases, Avantair is cutting pay for its pilots.

Originally I thought they were making their pilots work an extra day for the same yearly salary. That would've been a huge pay cut. What you just described is much better than that. However, it still sounds like they will be getting paid less for their time. If what you just said is accurate, I think it is fair to call it a pay cut.
