While NJA is not doing very well employment wise ( they are supposedly profitable) it should be noted that Glasspilot does not work for NJA. So his opinion is based on speculation and rumors from websites..Nothing more. (sure he may know someone here, but so does everybody.)
But I will agree that there is no hope for interviewing for atleast 5 years (being very conservative)

I currently work 7/7 and my wife loves it.
Thanks

As to the second part the quote- the vast majority of pilots at NJA aren't "totally unhappy". It is still a great job, but the dread of not knowing if you are going to be furloughed that gets a lot of pilots down. We are unhappy with management, but not the job itself. Outside of SouthWest, I can't really think of another pilot group that has more than an ounce of luv for those who run the show.

To put it in perspective......before the downturn and Sokol sucking the life outta the place.... the biggest complaint I ever heard was either a crappy meal from Rudy's or not enough beer tickets at the Doubletree CMH. Once in a great while a guy would complain about the day's flights or where we had to overnight. Not every overnight can be SAN or an island......
I literally never heard a major gripe in 2 years.. except for when Sokol took over.
I think deep down many of us are holding onto the idea that it can return to that someday. If it was any other job I would have gladly moved on long ago.

This post is a test. I have responded to kingairfun 3 times only to have my posts lost. My apologies, I'm trying to figure out what I may be doing wrong.

I used to fly for a woman who made me hate flying. It was low pay, long hours and all the verbal abuse you could tolerate. The schedule was lousy. I would work 5 or 6 weeks straight and maybe get 5 or 6 days off.
It would appear that NJA's hierarchy is doing all they can to sustain their own jobs at the expense of those in the trenches who make the money for the company. Sometimes these vice presidents of nothing in particular forget that we, as pilots, take mortal risks to do the work that that keeps us all employed. I'd be curious to know if any human sacrifices have taken place in the corporate castle or do they see pilots as the main source of expendable assets.
There is an article that may give us all hope. Get on the ICAO website, use the search engine to look up "Seoul 30 March 2011 conference". It is a transcript of a speech which the president of ICAO is forecasting a pilot shortage of historic proportions lasting 20 years. Due to the economy, and as you know, the Asian/Pacific, Middle Eastern and Indian markets are aggresively recruiting American pilots. Also, student starts (a reliable indicator of the health of the industry) are down, so we are currently seeing a vaccuum being created at the top and the bottom of the pilot market. Good news for those of us who are trying to move up. If the laws supply and demand apply to pilots, then we should see salaries increase as well.
