One correction to ’s post: The hiring at XOJET is not entirely predicated in those leaving for the airlines, and thus will not be zero when the virus subsides. Current staffing is still below their target for the current fleet size so jobs will be available when we all get through this.

Enjoy LNK and Cali ! I’m done for now and waiting in a major airline terminal to go home. It’s as close to empty as I’ve ever seen it...

Default Be My Donor: “I Have Two Months to Live”

The passenger and his wife were two of the nicest folks one would want to carry. Having never flown private, both were facing the thought of flying commercially with medical conditions, combined with their age, that put them at high risk to C19. We were happy to fly them home.

In chatting with them I asked if they were flying home to family. The wife volunteered, “we don’t have any children” but she looked at her husband and smiled. As Paul Harvey use to say, “and now for the rest of the story”.

He then shared the incredible story of how a stranger, 21 year old college student was forever a part of their lives because of one selfless act.

The husband said he was a cancer survivor. The treatment for cancer 3 years earlier had put him in the high risk category for commercial travel.

As casual as saying what the weather was like back east he said, “the doctors gave me 2 months to live and my only chance of surviving was a stem cell transplant from a matched donor”.

He explained recipients on average wait 6-12 months before hearing of a match whereupon his wife interrupted and said “he’d be dead by then”.

He smiled and said the phone call that changed his life forever came a mere 3 weeks after registering with Be My Donor, one of the largest bone marrow banks in the US.
This is is when you stop reading this post and register to get your free kit to join the data base of millions. Learn how to be a Donor here

He then shared the incredible story of John, the college student, who was a 98% DNA match to Mark’s DNA.

It took about 20 minutes for the stem cells to be mixed with his blood and within a few days the prognosis improved and continued to improve weekly and monthly. It’s been a gift of 3 years since the transfusion.

Donors and recipients remain anonymous until one year after the transfusion and then are connected if each party is interested.

As Mark was driving a year later in his hometown he got the call, “Hello, Mark, this is John, I was your stem cell donor.” After nearly crashing, he pulled to the side of the road and began the next part of this journey of learning who this young man was who had saved his life.

John had joined Be My Donor in college because he was interested in going into medicine! Little did he know that not only had he changed Mark’s life but he had changed his own life for taking the initiative to be a stem cell donor.

I asked if he stayed in touch with his donor.

”John is in his third year of med school and he is doing just fine”, Mark said with a glowing smile. “He doesn’t have to worry about anything.”

“We just had his parents visit us in AZ and all of them are frequent guests to our home in NH... and he is doing very well in med school!”, Mark said with the same pride as a father speaking of his son.

“He will be very well taken care of in my will”, he said as his wife chimed in, “How do you thank someone who saved the most precious person in your life? I owe him so much for saving my husband’s life.”

The story made our day as both the Captain and I reflected on this incredible uplifting story in what is to so many a very dark time. We can all do something for others and “pay it forward,” like John did.

As Mark was getting off the airplane he handed my young CA a $100 and said, “Put this in your child’s college fund with my blessings she will pay it forward to others when she gets older.” America is made up of so many amazing and giving people...I was lucky to have met two of them today while flying.

My stem cells are pretty worn out (must be under 60 to be a donor) but my hope is this story will be shared by others who will go to Be My Donor and become a donor. We can all do something for others during these challenging times. I challenge you do something in the coming days to pay it forward, big or small.

Came down this morning for the 30th class on SWA. only TWO paying passengers on the aircraft and 3 deadhead SWA pilots. I was BS'ing with one of the Captains who had flown run from Austin with 8 pax, he said the union has already told them to expect as many as 5000 furloughs if not a complete suspension of operations for 30 days. I think XO is in a unique position though, NJA is a 2 million dollar buy in for most of their AC and most of their owners are hunkering down in New York or West Palm, XO can be bought fast and cheap if you have to travel?? All that said I will be shocked if we stay an entire 10 days, guess is they issue ID's, get all the physical paperwork done, send us home and do the rest via Zoom, online stuff etc. Happy to be here though!

I’m a Swa pilot and that is completely untrue regarding the union news.

Ha. My neighbor is a 17yr guy and laughed this evening when I showed it to him. Denying the post in its entirety.

'm just telling what this guy told me, so if you guys are getting better information great, I just don't know how long you fly 2-9 passengers around is sustainable, all my reserve guys are taking the American and United buyouts and think I am insane for being down here for training. Were all going to get it in my opinion so just gotta do it! Good news is if your in the reserves we got a tone of money now rot pay guys to stay home and just be available!

It's going to be interesting training now that most of South Florida counties are imposing curfews

None of what you said is even remotely true.
