AA needs to hire 800-1000 a year and at least 50% of that number is provided by flow-thru. Envoy has 2100 pilots on property. Not every Envoy pilot will want to go to AA. Do that math. 3-4 years sounds about right.
For anybody under 40 that wants an airline career track, it is a much faster path to the front seat of an airliner than languishing in the right seat at NJA for who-knows-how-long Good for the youngsters, rearview mirror for old farts like me.

I couldn't agree more. My wife is a new hire mentor at AA. I know for a fact that the only folks getting to AA are MIL, Flow, and single digit interns / protected classes.

This is the beauty about the airline industry. The future is predictable and completely measurable and quantifiable. Of course the economy will take a crap again, and of course that will change hiring. But retirements aren’t changing, even if the airlines cut hiring in half, retirements are coming no matter what. Age 67 for the airlines isn’t even on the horizon yet, and it probably won’t be.

and be ready for more roller coasters if rep Then and the RAA (backed up by the Air Force) get their new RAA ACE program and H1B1 visa plans passed. If it passes, lets see what happens to that pilot shortage at Regional level where management would love to keep you at $40/hr for 2-3 years
United could take every pilot in the Airforce by its self in the next 10 years on retirements alone.

Yes, and obviously the AF doesn't want this to happen, hence why they are working with the airlines on 1500 Rule amendments like ACE and support H1B1 visa programs for the Regionals. If ACE passes Congress and Senate, things could go back to looking bleak at Regional levels.

The 1500 rule was already challenged and defeated once so ACE doesn't have a lot of traction right now.
