Thanks for the correction. Doesn't exactly make up for throwing the new hires under the bus, but it is a help.

Default Retirement buy out in new contract?

Does anyone know if the new contract activates the buy-out clause for those who want to retire? I understand the last contract did and there may be quite a few of the "more experienced" pilots who might have been waiting on that before retiring. If so that would cause some movement.

There is no buyout in the contract. Both the Union and management have agreed to a VSP (voluntary separation program) as it has been told to the pilot group. We do not know, nor have we been shown what the stipulations are in the VSP. It is up to management to institute the VSP at their choosing. People are expecting some huge acceptance rate for the VSP, but I bet we won't see more than 150. At least I bet the company won't allow more than 150. Now between those having seniority numbers at the majors (there are several), those wanting to leave regardless of a VSP, those getting interviews, and those waiting to receive the signing bonus, it wouldn't shock me if we saw 500 people leave in 2016.

There is no way that 500 people will leave in 2016. We are currently seeing less than 10 a month leave. There is no way that is going to jump to over 40 a month.

The VSP hasn't been initiated yet, and bonuses haven't been received yet. We are seeing about 10 a month leave just from guys getting hired at the majors. I have been here 10 months and I have moved over 100 seniority numbers. Granted some of those are furlough cleanups but still. I am not saying 500 will be the minimum, I am just saying it wouldn't shock me. Hell even 250 would be a no brainer if you think about those getting hired, those retiring, those taking the VSP, and those just leaving.

I got here the month after you did. I have moved up 138 numbers, but 90 of those were furloughees that did not return. So that is 48 in 9 months. That's 5.3 per month on average. Like I said you are dreaming if you think a magical VSP will make that number jump by 800%.

Well I could care less, it is going to mean nothing in terms of us upgrading, and I hope I can add myself to the list of those leaving. I didn't say the VSP will make anything jump by 800%. The company isn't going to allow 500 people to take the VSP. Most educated guessers are saying 150-200 will be allowed to take it. I bet we see something close to that, maybe 100-150. There are several guys too junior to probably get the VSP, that have numbers at American. And seeing 50 or more leave to greener jobs isn't crazy at all. You are right, 500 is probably a crazy number.
