Vegas sure will be an easy commute. I bet a fair amount of guys who commute to Chicago and Orlando from Denver will bid Vegas. I'm betting Vegas goes more senior than both Chicago and Orlando.[/QUOTE]

I think it will go senior for captains and pretty junior for FOs . Most FOs in ORD and MCO want to be there. Lots of career FOs in DEN. Commute definately easier for Denver peeps and anyone west coast.

It's gonna get interesting to say the least. There's a BIG crowd of captains in ORD, because they can't hold anything in DEN. There's also a large amount of DEN captains that are west coast guys. The same can be said for MCO. This is gonna be a complete shake down at all bases. Tons of moment over 3 to 4 months of its opening.
Time will tell, but that's my opinion.

I agree. I think this will shake up the seniority list a lot. I think a lot of Chicago captains will bid Vegas, making room for some junior captain spots there. I think Vegas will end up being fairly senior for captains. How many reserve Denver captains are willing to commute to Vegas to hold a line? Will any junior line holding Denver captains bid Vegas to hold a better line? Probably not, I'd think, even though I suspect it's one of the easiest commutes. I'd also guess a fair number of Orlando guys will bid Vegas.

What will this do for future Denver captain spots?

Just a guess but looks like the schedule will probably consist mostly of turns and a $/@;load of 4 days that will almost certainly begin with a redeye. I heard a rumor that they wanted 130 crews in LAS and that DEN would eventually shrink to about 200. Have no idea whether that is accurate but it seems to make sense.

Ok great rumor...seriously, who the fuuuk believes this nonsense?? Why don't you just see how things shake out instead of trying to start crap and worry people with Sky Is Falling type of lunacy. Vegas is a good thing for now. Btw, what you say makes NO sense, AT ALL!

I would say very little at first. Opening a Vegas base will allow them to cut a lot of lines out of Denver, so anybody coming out of DEN to go to LAS won't need to be backfilled by junior CAs. That said, LAS is still going to be a great base for anyone wanting to live and commute in the west (and we obviously have several that fall into that category). So overall it should have a positive effect for this pilot group. If you are a junior CA wanting to get back to DEN, I think you'll be disappointed.

Duuuuuddddeeee chill... Like I said, it's a rumor. Came from someone I trust who has frequent contact with the company who also said a couple months ago that Vegas would open Aug 1st which looks like the truth. It could be total BS, it could be 100% true. I have no effing idea. That's what these boards are for, speculation.

Ok congrats to the folks who bet on LAS.

Where next?

My monies on PHL this time next year.

I'm guessing FLL, DFW, DTW...you see where I'm going with this?

Yup.
If I were going to bed on a merger with someone that's the one I'd bet on.

Your looking forward to a DTW base, aren't you.

This actually sounds legit. Vegas is great for those who want it, bad for those who like Denver as a base. Really simple. Quite a bit of flying currently from Denver will be moved to Vegas. If you think otherwise you are kidding yourself. That is why they are opening LAS. There will be less need for 300 plus crews in Denver at the moment. More like 200 if LAS is at 100 crews. Not to say over time as we add more flying Denver won't grow in size again but 300 crews was probably the biggest you will see it for a few years. It is about to shrink by 100. That is what I was expecting with the shift in flying anyway. I'm use to getting displaced. I hate it but I see it coming for many if they don't get enough to bid LAS. They sure are not going to shrink MCO or ORD. They also are clearly not doing a mass hiring event to staff LAS so the logical choice is to watch Denver shrink as a domicile as the pilots bid or get displaced to staff LAS.
