Default Question about red eyes

How many red eyes are built into the schedules? A lot? I've read on the threads here and it seems there are quite a few red eyes, with 11 hours off and then repeat.

Just wanted to confirm since the new contract, nothing has changed in this area. I know PBS is coming, but that could be some time yet.

Have an interview coming up. Just wanting to make sure I have a handle on what I could be in for.

Thanks so much.

Depends on which base. LAS is redeye heavy. MCO not as much but we still have some. PBS itself won't affect the existence of redeyes. F9 tries hard to maximize its daily aircraft utilization so redeyes will likely stick around.

If your Vegas based you’re going to do them, other bases it’s easy to avoid them. I’ve flown two in the last 12 months one bc I didn’t look good at my trip and another because I needed certain days off.

Red-eyes make up less than 10% of the flying.

31.6% of quoted statistics are false.

For those of us that used to do A LOT of night flying, I don't see the problem. Let management schedule them if they can get utilization out of the aircraft, and then up the premium on them until the bidding is competitive with day flights. Problem solved.

What problem did you just solve?

Is the company having trouble staffing redeye flying? News to me.

We didn't negotiate any such provision.

Just another personal view, from a LAS NK pilot. I fly a lot of red-eye (Feb 50 % are redeye, the rest a mix of early/late.) I prefer a 4-day with just 4 nights over a 4-day with 24-hour rests after a red-eye, trying to sleep from 7 to 11 am, then going to bed before 10 pm for a 6 am wake up is worse to me.
