Not so much. Completely clueless authors. One article is from 1.5 years ago when basic economy was just being rolled out by United and it has been going strong since. Interesting how neither of these mention Delta who has had basic economy since 2012. Here is an article that might help you understand why basic economy is an effective means for network carriers to compete with LCCs & ULCCs. It is the antithesis of Ted.

2018 DEN market share growth (decline)
UAL 12.1%
FRT 3.0%

Absolutely. Franke has done great things for the traveling public, employees and even the network carriers. As Henry Harteveldt, travel industry analyst, said, "Bill Franke is, in a way, more responsible for some big airlines making money than anyone else in the industry." LCCs and ULCCs were the impetus for basic economy.
OK. Not sure how much in DEN, but see you then.

Wait until oil doubles and Franke's stalling tactics with labor falters. Oh and then David Neeleman pops up with Moxy and his year zero labor to execute the finishing move and the true meaning of bottom feeding. See you then...

In fact Spirit kept the bar up with the contract they bargained during the great recession

Superior product is subjective. What do you base it on? Profit margin? If that’s the case we gotcha there. Don’t get me wrong, my family travels United all the time. It’s my preferred airline but we operate in different markets. We don’t compete for your pax, and it’s a mistake to compete for ours. Our CASM is just way to low. CASM on a 175 from Denver to west coast has to be enormous. It’s not fitting the right plane to the right market. That’s old, old, old bad marketing management makes to their employees.
Anyway, I sincerely hope for the best for all but ULCC model is vastly different than the legacies. It’s that simple.

Been treated well by united, JB, Alaska...... AMR not so much....treated well by SW but the guppy is noisy and cramped.... prefer the buss or the 57, 175 .....any widebody
Our seats just plain SUCK
