Frontier Advice
Good evening everyone,
I'm currently a captain at a tour company based at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. I'm interested in being a pilot for Frontier. I do need some advice tho in what I should do in terms of getting there. I will give my total times as of right now...
2086 TT
1095 ME
1737 Turbine
1379 PIC total
100 Instrument
85 Night time
953 XC time
430 PIC ME
With my contract ending in the middle of Feb I should have over 2300 hours. Frontier prefers 2500 hours. That being said would it look better if I go to a regional for a year then onto frontier or do I have a chance of getting in with what I will have by February?
Thanks,
John

Hard to say if going to a regional would better your chances. What will better your chances is attending meet n greets or career fairs that frontier attends.

Don’t work for Frontier but I’d assume most of their new hires have at least a year or two of 121 experience. There’s definitely not guarantee you’ll get picked up at 2500hrs. So, I’d go to the regionals ASAP and start building that resume.

I’ve been at F9 since 2013. In that time, most of the classes have been a fairly even split of varied aviation experience. Everything from all military, all 121, only 135/corporate, foreign carriers, Purdue flow, a combination of the above, and everything in between. We don’t seem to look for any certain time, it’s more about whether they like you face to face. Like was said above, try to go to the meet and greets. If you meet our minimums in any way shape or form, and they like you, then you have just as good a shot as anyone.

Training
Before completing training at Frontier i’d have suggested anyone without 121 time would struggle, however my classmates proved me wrong.!
135 and 91 Corp folks did just fine though obviously there’s much less to learn if you’ve worked for a regional. There’s a hit in OE too; but we hire for fit.
It’s a great pilot group and everyone has a vested interest in keeping it that way.
The Meet the Chiefs events are a great opportunity to get a sense of wether *you* would be happy here..

Yeah we don't really fly that much IFR. I think in a week I logged 7 hours of actual but that was during the winter. We do practice as a crew simulated instrument and shooting approaches just to keep current since we don't fly a lot IFR.
