Default Frontier flow / furloughed ALPA pilots

Hey guys. I really wanted to interview here in the fall but I was advised by your pilot group that I should not apply until your new contact is nailed down, as doing otherwise was undermining your efforts to reach an agreement.

Unfortunately, as soon as your new contract was being wrapped up, my regional (Compass) announced a “F9 Flow” program. Unfortunately the program was a tactic by management to prevent career progression and attrition for their pilot group. Our “flow” is guaranteed flow for 2 pilots per month, and absolutely no interviews are permitted outside of the flow.

In addition to this, the company has said F9 stopped hiring and has “paused” the flow. Zero compass pilots have been permitted to advance their careers at Frontier in 2019. this includes zero flows, and worse, zero interviews.

This is a horrible deal for our pilot group, and it was forged behind our backs and without knowledge from the union. Since, the company has refused to back down and our union has completely ignored the issue.

This is already an unfortunate deal, but now compass is losing 65%+ of its fleet in the next 9 months. we are all essentially facing furloughs beginning this fall as we lose our airframes. As of September we are already shrinking our flying and are extremely overstaffed.

For many of us, Frontier is a place we would like to have the opportunity to interview at, especially as we face impending unemployment at our current airline.

Our company and union have let us down. I was wondering if your ALPA team had any input on this, or talks of abolishing it, considering it is an agreement that was made behind our backs that entirely blocks our opportunity to advance our careers and lives at F9, even as we face the impending loss of our current company.

In short, to your company, pilot group, and ALPA MEC: “Help us!”

Ever heard the saying "better to ask forgiveness than permission"? Have you actually applied at Frontier? What's the worst that can happen?

I did. They don’t consider the app. I also visited F9 at OBAP and they handed my resume back to me as soon as I said compass, saying “we can’t touch you guys”

We even had a couple guys with January interviews scheduled that had their interviews cancelled.

For what it's worth, I know of a compass pilot who was part of a regular interview group at F9 headquarters this past February.

Maybe that was before the restriction took place (?) but it was 2019

I was Compass and I interviewed in January. I know of two other compass people that had regular interviews in February as well. Not sure why those guys had their interviews cancelled?

I can tell you folks on the hiring committee are aware of the issue. Hopefully the flow goes away but I’m not sure if/how that’s going to be possible? Till then hang in there because at least the entire industry is hiring right now.

I currently work at Frontier and got lucky with my timing. Hopefully good news comes to Compass.

Uhhhhh, Frontier hasn't hired any pilots in 2019(new contract efficiencies, summer, etc). It's not a personal vendetta against you. Airline industry has never been better. Pity party? Stay optimistic.

Flow agreements are a tool used by management for leverage against labor. There’s substantially more downside than up. Unfortunately, to my knowledge, Alpa hasn’t been able to stop them and has even negotiated some of the language for them. Your currently experiencing some of the downside. Your management definitely does not want it gone.

We haven't hired anybody this year? I find that shocking since I was hired this year.
