Because PHX is a very large and quickly growing city. American is by far the weakest of the big airlines so when you are looking for a big city to grow in, you pick the one with the weakest competitor. SW is definitely a challenge there but you have to go somewhere. PHX also allows for year round outdoor maintenance

So does swa. They have a las base as well. We used to run from swa but now we have substantial competitive advantages. I never thought that would happen but it did.

Also the powers at be are headquartered in Phoenix. All of our bases compete directly with AA or SWA, I don’t think management is scared of them. I’m just hoping anything west of the Mississippi.

You would think so. ONT has over a million people in the near vicinity and has excellent weather year round. But it’s California and there’s always some kind of special tax for everything imaginable.

AA is the weakest Legacy and most vunerable. SWA is hardly a LCC. They haven't been any cheaper than Legacies for years.
