Default MIA Base

I've searched the forum quite a bit, and have found little information "from the horse's mouth" about MIA base. I know that it isn't open yet, but I was wondering the temperature of what's going on in MIA for F9? I have read about CA displacements, but what about projected FO seniority to hold? I am meeting with the chiefs here in MIA on Feb 28, but would like to show up at least having a feel for what I'm getting into before I jump in should I be offered the interview. I have zero interest in commuting, which is why I am curious to know if MIA is expected to go senior on the FO side and take a long time, if any, to hold.

So far MIA has gone very junior. If you live in Miami, you'll be in great shape.

Base opens in April I think.

I do live in MIA, which is why I don’t want to make the jump if I’m going to have to commute. Currently at Republic as a senior FO lineholder, and my QOL is as good as it gets for a regional pilot. I’m still a year or more away from being able to able the most junior reserve CA award at YX in MIA (2-3 more years to be a CA lineholder), and seeing that the junior CA displacement was a 12/16 hire at F9 in another thread, it seems its a particularly good time to try to make a move. I would obviously be giving up my cushy FO schedule here, but if my relative upgrade time to a line becomes pretty much a wash, I’m really makes getting out to F9 or NK a now or never prospect for me. If the displacements are going to be trying to get out quick, that would on the face seem like more movement at the bottom.

I generally don’t like to tell people how to live their lives, but if I can offer any career advice, it’s this: DO NOT hang your hat at a regional. Just don’t. I get not wanting to commute, but the facts are F9 has a junior base in MIA and you live there and seemingly want to continue living there. This should be an absolute no-brainer for you if you get the job offer. Any short-term commute you may get will pay off big.

Oh I wholeheartedly agree with everything you’ve said, but my fear is I go get the moon hung by recruiters, get excited, take the job/quit YX, then show up on day 1 to find that the door has slammed shut in MIA, and I’m stuck commuting long term until I can get to MIA, then get stuck on reserve for eternity. We all know everything in this career is about timing, and new company at a new base is definitely a big timing gamble.

I guess the main reason why I'm "worried" is I see the base is going to open with 30 pilots. That's just not a lot of pilots overall. Presuming that's 15 pilots a side, I could easily miss the window if I don't move as quick as I can.

Prior RPA myself, and I can promise you that you would have no regrets coming over to F9. I was a pretty senior FO at RPA, and as a junior lineholder here, QOL is incredible, and I’m a commuter.

MIA will open with ~30 crews. It's already double that on the May bid. ask me how I know :-)

There’s already 52 CA / 56 FO based there effective May 1 according to the latest system bid notice. We tend to have around 100 crews at every base with the exception of DEN obviously.

I'm pretty confident a new hire will be able to hold MIA right away

Wow okay so it's a lot bigger than I've really seen published anywhere. Well here's to hoping it works out! Pretty excited for the opportunity!
