From what I have seen and heard from people in LAS, A is used the least. D is used the most. C is somewhere in between and Long call will always be used more than everyone usually (in general)

Long call coast-to-coast?
Smart people... please help me out and sanity check me here.
I currently live in PHX and got long call to an east coast base. (Thanks, displacements)
Doable? Dumb?
All of my days are weekdays, so I'm not sure if that matters.
Thanks!

Scenario 1) pairings remaining for the next day are usually assigned to long call reserves after aggressive window closes...say 1500 EDT. Let's assume you get assigned a pairing with a 0500 report time the next day and it's only noon in PHX when you get the call. There should be plenty of time to get to the east coast for your AM report. But that's not getting into the discussion about rest opportunity...
Scenario 2) sick call comes in tonight at 2100 for a report time of 0900 tomorrow. Now it's 1800 in PHX when you get the call. The options become much more limited in the evening. You probably have one viable option (a red eye) assuming you can make it to the airport in time. Again this ignores the likelihood that you'll be starting your FDP already fatigued.

It's a math problem really. Can all flights from your west coast airport get you to domicile within 12 hours? Usually it's last flight of the day to first fight of the day gap that is the biggest issue. And the pesky 2 flight commuter clause if you're into that.

Thanks you guys. I appreciate the insight. Currently my excel spreadsheet of possible scenarios definitely shows some gaps... I also assume the particular base matters when it comes to utilization. But playing the crystal ball game seems like a fool's errand.

I would just do what you do and commute from home... Worst comes to worst? Idk. But it isn't worth commuting to a crash pad just to sit there on long call.

Yeh like the other guys are saying. If they call you after the last flight of the evening leaves you prob ain’t gonna make it. You can def sit long call in a different state. But the flight can’t be too long, and frequency of service is key.

Oh almost forgot. Please don’t provide any details on the recorded phone call with scheduling. I’m exercising pjp and won’t make it. The end.

For example, let's say you have LC Monday - Friday for 3 weeks straight, then a following week of LC Tues-Thursday. Not a bad schedule eh? The company can all you on Tuesday OF EACH BLOCK and convert you to ResB on Wednesday. They can do this EVERY week. So, you still need a hotel or crashpad. And, are you really gonna fly back home on Thursday if they don't use you (and possibly be called for a turn on the last day)?
They can actually convert you MORE than 6 days but on the 7th (and subsequent), they have to pay you above block. In almost every month I've ever had LC, the company has converted me AT LEAST 4 times. The only thing they CAN'T do is convert LC to SC on your last day of the block.
Just one more of the many ways this contract allows the company to ruin what should be a great provision for life planning.
