Reserve Questions
#21
Can you explain why you think 12 days off is a joke? 12 days off is 40% percent of the month, which sounds pretty good to me, and as a reservist I’ve gotten even more days at home, for example this month I worked 9 days, with 4 overnights. The other 9 days I was on short call, I was just hanging out at my house, doing whatever I wanted with my free time. In sum I ended up with 21 days to myself, and this month was the most I’ve worked on reserve.
ETA: I see dashdriver found the better reference to days off. The faraim CBA strikes again. I wish this document was easier to absorb and navigate lol. But wouldn’t 18 RDPs in 30 days or 19 in 31 still produce 12 days off in the month?

What’s worse is that for C through E reserve, they can run you until 2am the FOLLOWING day before you’re getting any additional pay because the first day wasn’t technically a day off. Even worse than that is that our minimum AVERAGE duty PERIOD does nothing to help the situation.
Either the negotiating committee and the union missed this the last go around, or they didn’t care. Neither alternative gives me warm fuzzies.

No. A “day” is 12am to 11:59pm. E reserves can be used until 9am the next day. D reserves can be used until 7am. C reserves can be used until 2am. The only reserve periods that actually get 18 days off are A and B reserves.

Our CBA is like reading the FARAIM, in that everything is carefully crafted lawyer speak and details are not easy to find. Reference section 25.E to find the specifics on days off for both Line and Reserve (non FDO) pilots. If we aren’t getting 12 days off with no known absences, then we need to figure out where the bidding software is going awry, and see if that can be remedied.

I am more amazed our NC doesn't care about reserve when we have so many older people in DEN sitting reserve after 16 years at the company, and spending 2-3 years on reserve in Denver before even holding the worst lines.

Seniority should not be a factor…..make reserve (15 days off) a choice for the homebody’s who like to be in their shop every day but within callout period….3 hrs short, 16-18 hrs long!

yep, Like I said above, I would bid reserve all day long if I had a longer callout and more hard days off. It is a great thing for those who live in base. I just hate not being able to pick anything up and it limiting me to where I can live around my airport.

The NC hates reserves so much they managed to get FDO/3x6/half month lines in the the current contract as well as getting reserves the ability pickup on days off and pay above guarantee, and aggressive bid into days off. They also got reserves the ability to commute during the first 2 hours of their RDP, as well as negotiating an LOA for a removal before report policy. Considering the amount of ground they had to make up in the compensation section, among others, I think they did pretty well for reserves last time around.

As far as LAS, I’m not familiar. System wide, they use long calls first if they have the 12hr notice. LCR runs senior here, for example, I was able to bid a line with no red eyes in MCO before I was able to score long call. I’ll ask around to see if some of my classmates in Vegas can tell us what the reserve slot metrics are out there. It might be difficult to nail down those specifics though, I know most pilots are getting lines quick there, within 3 months of hire, which means they’re bypassing reserve completely and getting lines immediately after completing IOE.

um , No…..
Bid into days off with 12 off nearly impossible (117 rules) and at CS discretion
RBR twice in ROLLING 12 months…….OOOOOOO 🙄
FDO goes to senior vac
3 X 6 do NOT exist…..
half month lines are NEVER awarded
compensation was inevitable
15 days off 31 day month, 14 in 30 day month
5 hr calendar power day credit
1 hr pay above min or motel every time RSL is switched to short
3 hr short call
16 hr long call
